this one gets my vote!

How about my craptacular attempt at inverse serrations?

crappycopyqn6.png

Imagine that, but better and looking like real serrations.

And now there is this, even better, I wanted to go with the 3 circles deal:

I really liked number two (the dovetail design), until the reverse serrated showed up, they kinda look like shark teeth- ...."and dat's 'da bomb"

Not to beat a dead horse.... but..

I think the Random type of Composite pattern begs the question "What is that line in the Blade"? or "Is there a function to the different Steel inlayed in the Cutting Edge"?

Whereas a recognizable/repeated pattern to the Composite inlay looks more like a purely aesthetic enhancement trying to lend itself somehow to the overall Knife appearance.

I see your point; almost like it is designed to make the knife more "tactical" in appearance. Do what I do: go out of your way to tell everyone who will listen all about your composite blade!

What do you guys think of this one?

Gavin

I like it Gavin, but I would prefer sharper points on the dovetails. It is my second favorite so far. My favorite is still the organic shape. I gotta say though: Someone do a fire-themed composite!

Now that really works for the RAM!! Go figure, the guy who designed it knew what would work:D Very nice. Probably my favorite so far, but habit did a pretty good job with the little serration pattern also. I think if that was done a little more professionally (no offense habit, we know it was a quick design;)) then it would look REALLY good.

I think everybody so far has had excellent ideas that would make great composite designs for one knife or another.

Cheers,
Jon

2brothers, yep it's 'the' Gavin. . .man you guys are going to give me a big head. so i love your quote. . .everytime i talk to Thomas i want to work 'are you two on acid' into the conversation.

I think it would be a good idea for Kershaw to upgrade their Ram. . .

im glad you guys liked our version. . .if we come up with more versions i'll make sure and post them.

Gavin

Gavin, thanks for stopping by! That is, imo, the best I've seen yet. Flows perfectly with the knife!

Another question...are you coming out with some new knives? The reason I ask is that your site says the D.O.G., T.O.A.D. and K-AT are discontinued...

My site is really outdated. . .i just haven't had time to think about it. . .hmm. . new designs. . .we're always working on new designs, that's why all those knives are discontinued, can't make knives and create new ones. Now that we've been working with Kershaw my Dad and i can start focusing more on creating new designs, and let Kershaw worry about making them. This should free us up to really start pumping out ideas. . . i wish i could tell you more about what we're working on. . .but that would ruin the surprise! i usually have a new prototype of some sort at every show we do. . .i'm hoping to have something for blade to show off. . .

Gavin

Good to know. It will be nice when the auto is released, and I hope you'll drop back by after Blade and give us some pics to drool over!

Thanks!

Hey Gavin, first off, love the RAM. second, love the design for the composite RAM. i do agree with Jeremy though, fire themed would be cool :D

No offense taken, it was a very quick job :P unfortunately, as it stands now I have the ideas, but not the skill to make them a reality. I've recently begun drawing my own knife designs as well as other things, in hopes of one day learning to truly operate in an artistic manner.

But yeah, I was thinking serrations along the lines of this:

Excuse the Gerber :o but in my glancing around I didn't find a good example of the serrations I wanted on a Kershaw.

Thanks again for taking the time to come and chat with us. It's
nice to hear from the makers themselves.

I'd like to see Ionbond 'oil slick' the R.A.M.

Good discussion hear, appreciate all the info. I'm going to present a composite RAM (probably Gavin's version) to a couple of customers, and we'll see what they have to say. I'll keep you all posted.

Why yes, Thomas. No problem. I'll be glad to help you out and give you an informed opinion. Do you still have my mailing address? :D:D
