R.I.P my best buddy. :*(

You have my condolences, i don't know what i would do if my "boy" had to be put down.
But you can take solace in the fact that the dog is in a better place now.
And as far as doing the right thing, you most certainly did, it would have been selfish of you to put it off if the dog is suffering just to say he's still around.... you did the right thing!

My heartfelt condolences.
If it helps any I know exactly how you feel and what you are going through.

"he kept trying to get up to be next to me."

Because he sensed your grief and sadness. That is how selfless and loving they are. He wanted to comfort you right up until his last breath.

Had to put my dog down today. He was my best friend and I'm totally at a loss of what to do now. I can't stop thinking about him. I can't sleep and he was tough right up til the end he wouldn't go to sleep it took 3 times the normal dose and he still wouldn't go..which made it even harder he kept trying to get up to be next to me. I feel so horrible and I don't know if it was the right thing to do. I'm sorry I know this isn't the right place for this but I just didn't know what else to do.
hey bro , mine is gone a year now, honestly it has not got any easier , he was my best friend too, I refuse to get another dog , I can't really offer any words to help , all I can say is you are not alone , these things are not fair and very hard to deal with.

Sorry to hear, its always tough losing a good dog around Christmas, been through the same thing and it sucks a lot but just remember the good times and that you saved him a lot of pain and suffering. Remember, all trials are given to us to make us stronger, and this too shall pass.

Don't worry about his final moments. As you said, he was your best buddy, and there's no question he knew that. He had a great life and you made the difference in his life.

He's at peace now. You are paying the price now. As someone said, 'grief is the price we pay for love'.

Maybe this will help.

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your
hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more
quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music,
as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your
footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated
animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater
glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do
your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able
to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health,
hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not
having any fun.

Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this Earth
knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in
your hands.

Remember the good times and the unconditional love.
My condolences.

Nothing will make the hurt go away until you forgive yourself for letting him go... Because you had to, for him.
I'm truly sorry to hear of your friends passing, and I heartily agree with your Brothers and Sisters here.
Celebrate his life, and love another furry friend when you can.
Anyone who doesn't get some "dust" (thanks Andy) in their eye over this just ain't fit to be human.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing can replace the love of a dog, they are the best companion anyone will ever have and their love is comparable to nothing. You have my condolences. :(

so sorry to hear this. its a hard thing to deal with losing such a great friend. my condolences to you.

You did one of the most selfless things possible you could for your dog. It hurts YOU but it makes him feel so much better. My condolences on your loss.

My condolences, but you did the right thing for your buddy, even if it was painful for you.

I totally understand what you are going through, but have faith: you will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Sorry for your loss. Just a horrble thing to do and go through. Only people like yourself who have had the privelege of having a dog in their life will understand the gut wrenching pain.

I've had to do the same thing a few times too. It's the worst thing I've ever done in my life. Every time I look at my old boy these days there's that sense of 'when'. It's never easy and I dread the day. :(

Whew! that's alright my keyboard needed a good washing anyway. :(

Very sorry to hear that you lost your buddy. I've been there, and it gutted me at the time. But a few months later we were ready for another dog, because we have to have dogs in our life. The joy a new dog brings does help the sense of loss. We'll always doubt that we did the right thing in putting them to sleep, and the answer is if they are in pain then saying goodbye to them is the right thing.

My heart goes out to you, but in time it does get better. Remember the good times.

I am so sorry for your loss :( Losing a pet is a very difficult thing to overcome. My thoughts are with you.

Sorry for your loss. I have had to do it a few times, and it still hurts to think about it. Just remember you did it for him so he would not suffer any more. You will meet again someday.
