R.I.P Vampire Gerbil

I'm sorry to hear that he's gone, though glad that he is no longer in pain. Goodbye VG. :(

One of my favorite VG pics. At Ground Zero in 2002, from left to right:

Dave,

Great pic. :D :thumbup:

Judy,

Has there been anything in the obits about VG? if anyone attends his funeral service I would like to obtain a prayer card if possible. I carry the cards of brother firefighters who have passed in my helmet.

Judy,

PM sent to you.

I don't know about an obit. I'll check with Albert at Visiting Angels. If there are any prayer cards at the funeral service, I will make sure that you get one. I plan to attend, as long as it is not next Friday. I'll get you a prayer card regardless.

He's in a better place. He was a hilariously funny, and insightful guy, and we're going to miss him.

Richard J would like me to post that the fund-raiser collaboration knife that was in the process of being raised for the VG Guardian Angel Fund, will now be engraved with "In Memory of VG" or "In Memory of Vampire Gerbil." I don't know which.

There will be a raffle conducted offsite of BFC for this knife. The funds raised will be used appropriately. Some suggestions are to give the funds to his mother to help offset funeral expenses, or to set up an "It is I, the Vampire Gerbil" member assistance fund, to help other BFC members in need, possibly those previous paid members who have fallen on hard time - to pay their current year membership. Other suggestions would be appreciated.

My suggestion to richard j was that Ren the Devil's Trail Boss might accept the honor of determining which members are in need of assistance.

Any other thoughts as to how the funds raised might be used to honor VG?

I am surprised and saddened to hear of our beloved VG's passing. Our sadness is selfish of course, we remember him how he was when he was witty, crazy, and just plain fun. Lately his life had taken such an unfortunate turn and as his body turned on him, we began to lose the VG we loved, tho we loved him still. It's hard to be grateful for someone's death, but I know he is finally at peace..something he'd not had for a long time.

Thank you to Walter to wrote an email and let me know of VG's passing. I don't visit here too much anymore and appreciate his thoughtfulness in letting me know. It's good to see some of my old friends again.

Edit - oops,sorry - didn't realize others had already posted the pictures I took of VG from BladeShow. My machine loads slow and I had posted these before I realized others had already posted my pictures. I've removed the duplicates.

I am speechless!! I can not believe that he is gone!! How can this be?? This deeeeeeply saddens me. Prayers out to his family. I am happy that he is no longer in pain.

I have always loved this poem. I found it when my younger brother died unexpectedly at age 26. It brings me comfort and I wanted to share it with all of you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He Is Just Away
You cannot say, you must not say
That he is dead. He is just away!
With a cheery smile
and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into
an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
it needs must be, since he lingers there;
So think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There
as in the love of Here,
Think of him still as the same, and say
He is not dead he is just away.
Some how I overlooked this thread for awhile and was very sad to hear of his passing. He is in a better place and has no more pain.
I just spoke with Edith, Dave's mom. She gave me the info for the funeral service:
Friday, November 30, 2007
12:00 noon
Graveside Service Only
Desert View Memorial Park
11500 Amargosa Road
Victorville, CA 92392
(760) 949-0328
This will be a non-religious ceremony as David did not follow any specific religion and not even the religiion of his parents.
As far as flowers go - I guess do what feels right. Flowers would need to be appropriate for a graveside service.
Edith and I talked about flowers, and she would rather have donations be made in Dave's name to your local Human Society, or to the rescue group of your favorite breed (go through the Parent Club to locate their rescue organization). Avoid USHS and PETA, please.
Dave loved animals so much. Edith really feels that Dave would want it to be this way. She did not ask that she be notified of any donations to animal organizations. If you would like to let her know, please PM or email me and I will send you her mailing address.
Here is Dave's name for donations or flowers:
David Gittelman
I would use "Dave" Gittelman. He hated to be called "David."
Please PM or email me if you have any questions. Ken, I don't know yet about prayer cards since Edith said this will not be a religious service.
If you can determine that there will be no prayer cards on Friday, could I suggest that you make small cards with your poem, date of arrival, date of departure and name? Non religious, but in memory of. Hand them out, send one to Ken.
You just need MS Word, MS Works or Publisher, some light card stock and a guillotine or sharp knife to cut them.
I can definitely do that. I have the technology, the supplies and equipment, and ability to do this! I'll even laminate Ken's to protect it.
I have made similar items for funeral services of friends and/or their spouses. If anyone has any special ideas or thoughts about anything else that might be appropriate to include, please let me know here, or PM/email me.
Great idea, Andrew. I think I will also PM our resident poet, Esav, and maybe he would write a personal poem for His Gerbilness.
Vampire Gerbil will be missed. He made me laugh out loud sometimes with his pics and humor. I pray that his rest is peaceful, and that he will be ruinited with his loved one soon for him.
