Raccoon

I don't believe a word of this. What stops the bullets after it goes thru the raccoon and then walls of the barn? -That is, if you can hit the raccoon in the first place.

With handloads in a .357 Sig P226, I have hit silhouette targets at 75 yards. One day I rented a .50 cal out of curiosity, just to say I tried it. I managed to get three rounds on the paper at 7 yards, out of a 21 round box.

I believe 'coons got into his barn. :p

if u use a trap ,lol tie a rope to it b/c u will not carry it by the handle once you catch one.... I trap 'em and shoot 'em with a 25 caliber beretta.

Lolz. When you're in the country, you don't worry about such things. As long as you don't have your house or any of your people as a backstop, you can just let 'er rip. The .50AE is a gonzo, dumbass round, but it would put the hurt on a raccoon in a big way. I've personally center-punched a chipmunk with a .45ACP. It did the trick, all right! Poof!

Is that trap designed to clamp down on the critter's arm? It looks like a squirrel trap, designed to contain the critter. Raccoons are huge, ~25lbs, way too big for that trap. They're very smart and good problem solvers. Even if that trap clamped down on an arm or two, the raccoon will figure out how to escape.

You might want to just call animal control or pest control.

Yep, no way that trap is going to work.

I will answer for my wife when we had some critter problems: "Don't kill them. They share the planet with us." Trap them and release somewhere else (so others can have the problem :-).

hey gangsta, that is a squirrel/rabbit trap you have there. You are going to need a trap that is at least 15 to 18 inches wide. I have trapped coons over 40lb, put 3 eggs in a bowl with one cracked open for bait...good for skunks too.
As previously mentioned if you remove the garbage and take it out in the morning they will learn to leave you off their nightly shopping list. A lot easier than trapping and transporting or disposing of.
Pest control is making more money for me than when I was a butcher right now.

Sorry dude, but that is funny!!

What the lost trap i thought that was funny for some strange reason I thought the a baby raccon got stuck in it and one of the bigger ones took the cage back to the nest but i found the cage with the meat still in it on the other side of the yard:thumbup:

i figured that out might go out this weekand and make a dead fall next to the trash can

I just bought some .22 shorts for this very problem. I tried the trap. The raccoon figured out how to get out of it. I caught him once. Checked the trap early, saw he was in there, and went back to bed. When I came back to haul him off a couple of hours later, he'd sprung the trap. Since then, he's either avoided the trap or sprung himself from it. Time for more aggressive measures.

If you are in the city and worried about a report, you might look at the Gamo Whisper air rifles.

I don't believe this raccoon tale.

Pics, or it didn't happen.

Raccoons are not solitary animals. One of his pals opened the cage. They can figure out most latches.

A good friend of mine in close in Portland had a terrible problem with coons. She trapped (a service did it) nine coons and two possums and they were still tearing up her new turf.

A friend who is experienced in these things made this recommendation. Talk to your neighbors so they'll know they may hear a .22 go off. Get the biggest, cheapest bag of dog kibble you can find. Put some out every night at the same time in the same place for several days. Shoot them - I think .22 hollow points are good - not near the ricochet problem - head shots only.

Give up on the trap, gangsta... if you wind up with a skunk in the trap you're not going to like it very much! :barf: I implore you, keep the garbage can in the garage until pick-up day. It will save you alot of aggrevation. :D

I replaced the pictures with live links, the old pictures had been deleted off BF and now reside on photo bucket. I have proof of the captures, but that is a long tail. :D

I was referring to the OP's raccoon tale. He placed bait in the trap even after everyone said that trap won't work. I think this is a tall tail.
