Where the hell is my BK-16 and 7? The 7 has an appointment with Dr. Benchgrinder and the 16s soon to be micarta is feeling left out...

Ok guys, I'm an idiot apparently. I got my first ever 1911 yesterday, A Rock Island blued wood grips and picatinny rail. I just tried for a fraking hour to field strip it for it first cleaning. I *finally* figured it out... wish RIAs came with manuals... pics soon!

Sissy bows have training wheels and matching tree stands because they are too heavy to lug around for days :D kidding. I used to shoot compounds when I was a younger. I just prefer mine these days.

Horse bows are just wildly pretty. Man, is that a great looking set!

Thrillbilly and others - you know I'm kidding about compounds and whatnot. They aren't for me but they are clearly effective. :D

In these situations youtube is a great resource. 1911's are a bit tougher to tear down than a lot of handguns, but they are so fun to shoot. I'd find a good video on youtube and bookmark it cuz you'll need it more than once. :D Oh and while you're at it here is a great youtube video to watch about how to grip a 1911 along with a bunch of other great tips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQy5yKN-2vw&feature=related

gosh, what did people do before youtube??

The 1911 must be THE most documented handgun on the planet...
there are diagrams, manuals, pdfs, etc. *everywhere*, in both print and electronic form.

I spose they just fiddled around with their new 1911 for an hour to figure out how to field strip it....:p I agree that theres tons of diagrams, books, etc out there on a 1911, but when you are trying to figure out something at 5am on a Sunday morning and nothing else is accessible, youtube can be a big help once you sort through the bs. Nothing beats actually having someone right there to show you how to do something though, thats for sure.

Yeah, I ended up finding a good tutorial that talked me through it. I thought you had to push the guide rod and twist, I couldnt figure out why it wasn't detaching. lol. I finally saw and understood that the bushing is a completely different part to twist. There is no way I would have figured it out on my own. I had already figured if I hadn't got it by tomorrow, I was going to take it to the gun shop next door and ask politely for them to show me. I thought it would be similar to my old Browning Hi-Power, but definitely not.

You're not wrong.
I'm just sayin' that a youtube video of following instructions they read in a manual they downloaded on the internet themselves is a whole lot of extra layers.

What's a good but inexpensive flashlight sheath that would fit a surefire g2? I'm in need of one since I currently carry mine diagonal in a Leatherman wave nylon sheath.

Don't know if you've found anything yet, but try a MOLLE M9 mag sheath. It's what I use for my fenix light. I use the plastic clip usually meant for dummy cords to attach a carabiner, which is how I then attach it to my belt loop.

i love photobuckets editing stuff. makes my camera phone pics look real good

9 hours on the trail yesterday. Would have been 6 1/2 but a member of our group had a chip on her shoulder about summitting and would not turn back despite how obvious it was that her physical condition, balance, and speed in no way matched the rest of us (or the demands of this hike). By her sixth fall it was clear that someone would have to stay back with her and her husband to assist with the inevitable shattered elbow or whatever when she went down again. Fortunately there was never any problem, but my awesome hike turned into an ordeal that lasted hours longer than it should have.

Moral of the story I guess is: I need to improve my ability to leave inconsiderate people behind to get eaten by mountain lions.

^^that sucks

On a brighter note, I picked up my upper n bolt carrier along with some other parts today :)
