Rambo IV knife prediction?

How bout a giant folder like in the last Crocodille Dundee which I thought was very lame.

You're gonna have to admit that no fancy knife is gonna make Stallone look 20 years younger. I watched "Rocky Balboa" and noticed that he's either got some excellent "aging" make-over; or has indeed undergone some true physical change. I sure would like to see a "John Rambo" who has matured into somekinda mountain man like Jim Baker.

It would be a challenge no doubt for the present day Sly Stallone to keep up with the youthful "John Rambo" of some 20 years ago.
I would have liked to see a matured long haired 'n bearded tough old coot pokin' fun and riding mayhem with his trusty, nasty 'n rusty foot long forged stag horned blade with trademark wicked saw teeth. But, I don't suppose that's gonna happen anyday soon.
So, it is my understanding that the ageless John Rambo (20 year's on) - the stealthy "Injun Scout", is gonna come in and save the day. Now that's Hollywood!
It would be more realistic that he looses his blade a little more often this time, so that Rambo gets to use a great variety of blades/weapons in the process. This way, everybody get's to own what they like to collect as seen in the movie! SAK, 2-bladed Trapper, Sawtooth, AK/M7 bayonets, Throwing Knife, Tactical Pen Drive... Come on, this could be a gold mine we're talking about. Why, maybe then old John wouldn't ever come down that mountain now that Col Troutman (Richard Crenna, RIP) is dead and gone.

Someone here surely knows Gil Hibben and if he is making them.

As a matter of fact, my wife and I had dinner with Gil and Linda the other night in New York. What a treat. Two of the nicest people you could hope to share time with.
Personally, I couldn't think of a better person for the job. (Although one of my autos would fit right in:D ) As far as the movies are concerned, The basic design probably comes off of a story board. Now this is just speculation, but in Hollywood everyone seems know more than the person who actually has the knowledge and expertice.

Oh yeah, as I remember Gil did mention something about it......or did he?;)

It's not like the knifemaker sends them a knife and says "use this". I know for Rambo III a lot of designs, prototypes and modifications were sent back and forth between Gil, Sly and the movie prop people before they all agreed on the final design that was used.

The replica of that knife by the way became the biggest selling knife that United Cutlery produced even thought the UC replica was smaller than the actual movie knife. If you have ever held one of Gil's handmade full size Rambo IIIs, it's one hell of a knife.

Stallone has beefed up for this role i read, look at him now they only started filming today so get some recent pics of him to see what he will be like nothing like in the trailers but then again who knows. Also in this trailer at the end he puts a Jimmy Lile "first blood" into the sheath ;)

A good trailer....

name of the film has reportedly been changed to "John Rambo"

Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe.

Fluffy hair, big knife and arthritis.

I think in that vein anything in the United Cutlery catalog would be fitting.

Sly is a real knife knut (and a Bladeforums member under another name). I don't know what he'll pick, but I'm sure it won't be a production knife.

No way! That is so cool! Are ther any other famous forum members besides you and Sly?

Trailer

The trailer I saw showed what looked like Rambo forging a knife. Maybe something simple and old fashioned for this movie?

If you go search for Ain't It Cool News, there is a 3 minute 29 second R-rated trailer. It is VERY bloody and violent. You have been warned...

At slys age I think it ought to be a plastic butter knife from the retirment village cafateria. First a new rocky and now a new rambo? Lets dig up Adam West to star in the latest Batman movie. I dont know why they would make another sequel to either movie when the last 4 Rockies sucked and the last Rambo was a joke to. Instead of letting a great set of movies stand on there own greed and wallets rear there ugly head. At this rate they better spray some lacquer on Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones XII.

Edit: Not that I wouldnt like to see more custom kinves in movies, I just cant believe they are even doing this :P

I would be cool if he used a knife made my one of the knife makers here on bladeforums.

Sly,
Do all of us a favor, and you as well,...use a Busse. (Fusion Battle Mistress LE) Everyone will then respect you. Ehhhh...everyone except Hibben, I mean.

And the knives in question....
United Rambo First Blood. 14" overall. 9" blade.
United Rambo First Blood Part II. 15 3/8" overall. 10" blade.
United Rambo III Bowie. 16" overall. 11" blade.

I took this screen shot from the trailer....looks like some kind of hand forged Dao knife.

I like the idea of Rambo as a village smith, forging his own neo tribal style knife. As a knifemaker and knife knut, I accept and appreciate this approach just as much as if a well known smith or maker made a big crazy knife for the movie.

I think this selfmade knife is a great idea. Just look at the discussions about what knife to use in the film, and it becomes obvious why this is the best choice.

How about a doctor's knife, so he will be better equip to pop his daily regime of meds. At some point you have to allow your character to grow up. Stalone's failure to do that has already resulted in the Rocky Balboa flop, and my expectations for another Rambo film are no better.
