Well - as big as that thing is, what you do is stick that thing in the ground and use the hole as a firing port. The knife serves as cover.

WRONG! According to Gil Hibben, the R3 slot was originally designed for a removable second blade that fit horizontally into the main blade. It was held in place by spring loaded release button. Gotta love the 80s! Pure awesomeness!
