Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist

Hi Nathan,

I have a couple of questions for whenever you have time to answer them. On the DEK3 the description states,“The swedge does not come all the way to the point to prevent the tip from being overly fragile,” would you recommend not adding the sharpened tip for the same reason?

The computer rendering of what the DEK2 “won’t look like” has a Tanto like blade shape, will the DEK2 have a similar shape with an extremely strong Tanto point?

Thanks for all the wonderful options!
:thumbsup::)

Hey Gussifer!

Nice questions which I was also wondering about before I finalize my decisions, I hope that Nathan chimes in his ANAQ thread.

FFIW, I think that I will also add swedge to my DEK2 to sexy it up (the shoulder looks a bit too square on the up top photo in the rendering, but it's just a rendering) but I think that I will just leave it at that W/O the sharpened top of the tip for a Tanto, unless Nathan makes a compelling argument for having it.

On DEK3, I agree with someone who had said earlier on to take advantage of Nathan's double-edged offerings whenever he offers them and I think that the DEK3 is kinda begging for a sharpened back of the spine (Eric's opinion). The way that pattern is going to be done is kinda like the way I was hoping the DEF2 would be done before the-powers-that-be finalized the DEF2 to be like DEF1. I am still deciding on the sharpened top of the tip.

The thing that keeps me from ordering a DEK2, is this guy:

Yeah, but all of my DEK1 scales will fit my DEK2 also.

I agree on the DEK2 and ordered mine with the Swedge and Penetrator Tip. I actually love the semi-tanto edge and can't wait to see how well it cuts leather. It just may become my favorite leather knife.
I believe that I'll keep my DEK3 in the vanilla configuration or maybe just a fully sharpened tip.

That's exactly how the inside of my head sounds trying to settle on this preorder
Ditto...(thanks to the angst being expressed over choices made and unmade by the barbarian horde.)

I, personally, saved myself the grief and am holding out for the folder.

Carry on while I get my earplugs and blinkers.

Yep. My problem is that I’m sure whatever I’d pick - knowing my luck standing in lines - would be shipped in month #18, while everybody else will get theirs next July; plus: I’m supposed to be done 🤣

#18 for what will practically be heavily customized knives from one of the finest makers currently out there, anywhere, is actually pretty awesome. Hollow grind, dagger grind, IKEA shelves for scales, satin and acid washed from CPK? Heaven! OTOH, the preorder list is not yet at the monstrous numbers but who will know if open for a week. That #18 may come down a bit but no matter, well worth it specially since the vanilla ones can be scored 6-9 months down the road ;)
