Random Thought Thread

...continuation of off-topic cigar story from a different thread...

One Friday afternoon, the Miami P.D. detective and I went to a cigar shop further west on Calle Ocho than some of the other haunts we'd usually go to.

Turned out they were rolling some big torpedos while we were roaming around the shop. When I inquired if we could purchase a couple, I was told that they were being rolled for a wedding that weekend.

I asked whether they were for the groom or the bride...at which point I was informed that the bride-to-be was the proprietor's daughter, and the groom was the popular Latin singer, Jon Secada. (Talk about putting your foot into it, as it was pretty clear what the implication was.)

I immediately went to the owner's office in the back and apologized profusely for my remark, making it clear that no offense was intended as I had no idea that it was his daughter's wedding, and I was just being a smartass.

He accepted my apology and we actually became friendly...though I wondered if I'd make it out of the shop that day without having to break leather.

You had to be there to appreciate it.

Hey Gussifer!

Nice questions which I was also wondering about before I finalize my decisions, I hope that Nathan chimes in his ANAQ thread.

FFIW, I think that I will also add swedge to my DEK2 to sexy it up (the shoulder looks a bit too square on the up top photo in the rendering, but it's just a rendering) but I think that I will just leave it at that W/O the sharpened top of the tip for a Tanto, unless Nathan makes a compelling argument for having it.

On DEK3, I agree with someone who had said earlier on to take advantage of Nathan's double-edged offerings whenever he offers them and I think that the DEK3 is kinda begging for a sharpened back of the spine (Eric's opinion). The way that pattern is going to be done is kinda like the way I was hoping the DEF2 would be done before the-powers-that-be finalized the DEF2 to be like DEF1. I am still deciding on the sharpened top of the tip.

The original #stillnotnathan (looking directly at you Captain Munch!).
Hey Mat, sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the Random Thoughts thread. I have been mulling over the options trying to decide if I want the sharpened tip and swedge option. I would usually go with the full double edge, but in this case I think I’ll just go with the sharpened swedge to preserve the tip strength and the original design.
That really is lovely Gus. What options did you select?
Thanks Dan, that’s the acid wash and satin combo, with swedge, and sharpened tip.

Blues Blues if you or someone hasn’t started to document you memoirs, you really need to! Just wanted to say you have had some amazing life experiences. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. It's been suggested previously on another forum, (firearms related), where there are a lot of active and former LEOs.

To be honest, I don't think I'd want the scrutiny or controversy which might accompany publishing any of it...and it's more fun to share some anecdotes and stories with friends as the situation allows or opportunity presents. (Don't worry, I've still got some good ones...but they aren't necessarily fodder for this sub-forum as most of it is unrelated to the mission here.)

The fact that you and any others might get a laugh or smile out of any of them is all the reward I need.

I appreciate your kind words.
