I don't envy you.

I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide on tires for my 4Runner.

I've changed my mind enough times to have whiplash.
Do you guys have a discount tire/americas tire there Elliot? I highly recommend the Goodyear Ultraterrain AT’s, but they are exclusive to them. Very reasonable too.

There's one about 20 miles from me. But I think a member from another forum mentioned buying those same at walmart. Lemme go see if I can find the link and I'll post it.

I read a few reviews, a couple of which put me off a little...but that's always going to be the case.

Truth is I mostly can't decide if I'm going P-Metric or LT. I don't need an E rated tire for what I do...just something to deal with sometimes steep gravel, mud, snow, ice...but not rock crawling.

Be back in a minute.

ETA: I misremembered...it was this model he mentioned he bought at Walmart.

I'm mostly down to either Falken Wildpeak AT3w or Toyo Open Country AT3...but the problem is that in the size I want it's either SL or E. I don't really need E and it would make me even less inclined to visit folks out of state. (Hmmm, maybe that's a good thing.)

I’ve also heard nothing but good about those Toyo Open Country’s too. My friend and a neighbor has ran them for years and years. They both say they are the only tire they will ever buy. They must be good.

I was just talking at length on the phone with a guy from Discount Tire and he said that in his opinion the Toyo would be a better choice than the Falken for my living on gravel since the Toyo has stone ejectors and cleans the tread better than the Wildpeak.

(The Wildpeak does have better test track stopping distance, and performance on ice...but that's moot if the tread is clogged with gravel.)

So, the Toyo has regained the lead again...which is where I had it before making myself crazy trying to figure out what was closest to optimal.

My brain hurts now.

Toyo open country at3 for the win. We have a set on our 18 4runner and love them. I had a set on my 06 Ram 3500 CTD and they were great as well.

Youse guys who can distinguish all this stuff from one tire to another are way too smart for me, Other than to look at them, I couldn't tell one tire from the next. I usually just pick some name brand all-season radial with a decent mileage rating that's on sale. But whatever I pick, whenever I first put them on I think, "Yeah, I remember now - THAT'S how tires are supposed to grip and make my vehicle stop!" And I'm not gonna lie - I also dig that new tire smell.

Who doesn't?

So im thinking about getting a pair of work boots
made for me by one of a few companies that still hand make work boots such as Wesco, Nick's,
JK Boots, and Frank's !... And after doing My research on these 4 companies ive narrowed
It down to either JK Boots or Frank's Boots
As jk has had been owned and operated by the
same family since day one and the same with Frank's who was the GM at Nicks boots for 20 years before opening his own shop and he also took 6 or 8 of the original boot makers that had been with nicks since the 60s ! So i believe that experience will make the difference between boot brands and so i think ill go with Frank's Boots. ! So does anyone here have any experience with Hand made boots ?... a plus if its with one of the brands mentioned above !
Any and all advice or comments are welcome

Blues Blues

I’ll chime in saying that I give the yoko’s the thumbs up 👍 Ran their geolander in LT range for years on my old Land Rover. They are really good tires. And the Land rovers are a heavy SOB !!! I run Good year dura tracs on my Silverado 2500 hd in the E load range. For SUVs and 1/2 ton trucks I like to stay in LT or E load tires in 3/4 ton and up. All that weight sitting on P series tires just bothers me lol. Plus the p series will wear faster from the weight. Now of course there are variables tire to tire. But making sure a tire has a good weight rating for the vehicle their on is important.
This all said I’ll be buying tires for my Suburban soon lol.

I think the curb weight of the 4Runner is right around 4750, give or take, with the KDSS system, so I'm not sure where that places it in your continuum.

Yeah your 4 runner is not light, probably pushes a gross weight of 6,000lb plus.
You can get a P series tire that could handle the weight. But P series tires are on road tires for passenger vehicles ( cars, HUVs) They really are not recommended for gravel roads and such. The LT give a much stronger tire , sidewall etc.

I’m about to lose my mind trying to buy a new truck in todays shit show.

It's pretty insane right now. I totaled one of our vehicles in November (2021 Subaru Crosstrek). Despite my insurance having a "keeper" clause where they will payout based on the value of a current year model, rather than a used 2021 model, they still paid out for the value of a used 2021 model, which is going for 8-10 grand more than a new 2022 new model is. I made money on the deal, especially after the body shop offered to buy the salvage off of me because auctions have become extremely unreasonable as well.

The problem being, there are no 2022 Crosstreks so we had to literally order a new vehicle from the factory and wait it out. We upgraded and ordered one of the new Outback Wilderness models and were able to pick it up a couple of week ago.

My insurance guy said he has never seen anything like it. Demand has far exceeded the current supply and new cars are flying off the lots almost faster than dealerships can get them in.

Wait a minute, a guy named Frank is stumping for Frank’s boots? Seems like a shill to me……😜

That out of the way, I have recently been in your boots. For me it was between White’s, Wesco, Frank’s and Nick’s. Having no proof to back it up, I am not certain White’s are quite what they used to be, so I passed on them. The Wescos are great and have more options than anyone as far as even being to pick thread colors. I didn’t really care about all that or feel like paying extra for options I wasn’t going to take advantage of. I am sure someone like Casinostocks Casinostocks would love glitzing up a pair of Wescos, but he is way to big of a puss puss to ever be able to break in any of these boots mentioned as the only things that are perpetually softer than his banker hands are his feet and that other thing.

That left Nick’s and Frank’s. As you mentioned, Frank used to be at Nick’s. They are for all intents and purposes the exact same boot. I am currently breaking in a new pair from Nick’s. First day was a few hours and it was rough. Second day was a little better and has gotten progressively better as the days pass. I am about two weeks in and they are starting to feel pretty good and I can wear them as long as I want to.

I went with Nick’s for two reasons. First reason, while I suspect the service after the sale with Frank’s is great, I know it is exceptional at Nick’s. Second reason, screw anybody named Frank.
