Nathan, do you guys have any chiller’s on your equipment to keep spindles and what not cool?

Yes, they all run a really thin oil through the spindle casing and through a refrigeration system. The machine has thermocouples in different areas of the casting to compensate for machine growth from temperature and to dial in that coolant temperature. The Makino has a 20,000 RPM spindle, which is on the high end for a cat 40, so the spindle chiller unit on it is the size of a small refrigerator.

Sweet, I was just curious. I’ve been doing maintenance on the chillers all week in a aerospace shop. They run a bunch of Makino Mag3s and have the first two in the US RigiMills. Pretty cool shit. Some of these machines spindles spin at 32,000 RPM.

We're winding down the last of the scales production for the utility fighter pre-order. You can tell when you're into the antique micarta simply by looking at the spindle load meter while making the deck cut. 45% spindle load on a Mori Seiki is no small thing. It's almost like machining metal.

The worst part is having to save face after; pretending that it didn’t happen and then seeing later dried formaldehyde droplets on your face… pretty embarrassing. Or so I’m told…
I don’t think anything else has made me cough and retch as badly… Maybe some of my 4 month old son’s poops. But that formaldehyde is on a different level.

Yeah, they were hard embalmed for the course. I know that the soup was a formaldehyde base, but the guy used his own "super secret blend" so it was probably filled with extra carcinogens.

So im thinking about getting a pair of work boots
made for me by one of a few companies that still hand make work boots such as Wesco, Nick's,
JK Boots, and Frank's !... And after doing My research on these 4 companies ive narrowed
It down to either JK Boots or Frank's Boots
As jk has had been owned and operated by the
same family since day one and the same with Frank's who was the GM at Nicks boots for 20 years before opening his own shop and he also took 6 or 8 of the original boot makers that had been with nicks since the 60s ! So i believe that experience will make the difference between boot brands and so i think ill go with Frank's Boots. ! So does anyone here have any experience with Hand made boots ?... a plus if its with one of the brands mentioned above !
Any and all advice or comments are welcome

I like Whites boots. They did get bought out several years ago, but I have gotten a pair since the change and they still seem to have kept up with the quality. They will send you a form with a measuring tape and an explanation of the measurements needed. There is definitely a break in period but once you’re through it they are great. They keep your measurements on file for future orders and rebuilds.

During the first week of cadaver dissection in school I was in the lab and got cadaver-juice sprayed in my face… and mouth :(
0/10 would not recommend
When we were dissecting fetal pigs in biology class, friend of mine had his hands all down in there and cut his finger with the scalpel...and promptly stuck said finger in his mouth.🤢

We finished up Utility Fighter scales today and also the last single bevel fighter came off the machine. We had to add an extra 200 to that order at the last minute which pushed beveling back a little but we're moving on to double edged next week. It's going to be a time crunch with heat treat.

PLENTY of time! You didn't promise they'd be done until May 28 (not that I'm anxious or anything). So you still have 3 1/2 months.

Nathan, you should change your handle to #Rodney Dangerfield

Would absolutely get fit for your measurements. You know my thoughts on Wescos. But they keep your measurments on file. Buy once, cry once. Other brands offer their custom fitting process. Whatever it is, do it. It's worth the investment.

One of the hazards of working in a machine shop is you will occasionally get coolant splashed in your face while blowing something off. One of the dangers of working in a machine shop is grabbing the closest clean looking rag to wipe your face and discovering that was Mark's WD-40 rag he was wiping knives off with..

Timmy can relate....
As a painter clear coat / lacquer thinner in the eye is damn near torture..... first time I got it in my eye I had to quit watching adult films for a week because I felt the female stars pain.....
