The ebay guy was a serious bidder, not some random internet asshole. His name is Robert (edit: last name redacted) and he collects knives. He isn't a regular here.

I guess he didn't know how ebay works with the bids going up a lot towards the end? He accused me of shill bidding. I'm not exactly sure how that would work, being or having a shill bidder seems like a good way to fail to sell a sword. I would never do something underhanded like that, but I also don't understand why anybody would do something like that, I don't see the upside to winning your own auction which seems like a pretty likely outcome in this situation.

I think his mind was blown that a CPK product would sell on the secondary market for substantially more than retail and he accused me of cheating. It really pisses me off that he would accuse me of cheating. That really bothers me a lot and I told him so. He said he talked to someone named "Jeff K." that mentioned a Montana outfitter "doing this on your website". I don't know what that means. What Montana outfitter? Who is Jeff K and why is he saying something like that? And how would shill bidding work on my website? None of this make any sense to me and I told him as much and asked for details but he never responded.

If anybody has a better understanding of what the hell he is talking about I would genuinely appreciate some illumination on this. If someone is out there bad mouthing me, I'd like to know who and why.

But, long story short. That sword is back up on ebay. Wish me luck.

I put a K18 up on ebay a few weeks ago and the winner ended up being a non-paying-bidder so I just relisted it for .99 cents.

pray for me
"Black handle and disembodied head not included."

ROTFLMFAO 🤣

Too many non-paying douchebags over there. And eBay does nothing about it unless the cretin becomes a multiple repeat offender. Sellers of high ticket items should be able to cancel the bids of zero feedback buyers, at their discretion. Or maybe require them to put 10% of their bid in escrow until the auction is over.

I agree that shill bidding is a great way of buying your own product. My little brother years ago was selling an old toy of some kind that he collected. He had his wife running up the bid so people would raise theirs, he ended up paying more to buy his own product back then he was hoping to sell it for…Idiot.

The part that your buyer seems to be missing is that even if someone was running a bid up, he still bid! He still made the decision to play instead of stopping. I would file a report with eBay for non paying buyer and leave negative feedback ( that part will get to a guy like that)

Good Luck with your sale.

Sorry to hear that Nate. As much as I love your knives for what they are, I also just really appreciate that you are straight up, honest and seem genuinely intent on producing the best knives in the world at affordable prices.

CPK's character is worth even more to me than your top of the line products.

Nathan, you are such a good guy. Wanting to assume the best about folks. God bless you, and this is one reason we all love you (besides that fact that your steel cuts diamonds).

IMO, your very first sentence ("The ebay guy was a serious bidder, not some random internet asshole") was contradicted by EVERYTHING you said afterwards that he did. NONE of what he said has a DAMN thing to do with what he bid. You could be the most devious and underhanded shill bidder in the history of man, none of that made HIM bid what he did. He has no honor, and no integrity to stand behind his own bid, and THAT is why he accuses you of being what he himself so very clearly is. Which is very much an Internet asshole.

Anyway, better luck on this next attempt. And Chag Pesach Sameach and Happy Easter to those who observe.

Ebay has this automatic bid increase option: once you place your bid , it goes up automatically in increments, upto whatever upper limit you set. My guess is that he forgot that he had set a large upper limit

This. Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist - you and your crew’s integrity is half the reason that I’m here. The other is - of course - an outstanding product.

I agree with this, and all post, regarding this topic. He bid on the item. It is a lame thing to do to you and anyone who was legitimately bidding on it.

So as you can probably tell, I have pushed the bids up "just a bit" and I guarantee you that I WILL pay if I win, and from this point forward anyone who outbids me will have a decent idea what they are committing to and several days to back themselves out.

But what I REALLY want to know is how much I need to bid before you'll throw in that really attractive and super-cool disembodied head. TIA!

So I see I just got out bid!

Report him to eBay as a nonpaying Buyer.

If HE set a maximum figure that exceeded what he's actually willing to pay, then he's nothing but a sour, whiny MORON regardless of whether some indiscriminate a-holes on eBay shill their own auctions (and everyone here knows you're not one of them).

It's also why the rare times I actually bid on something on eBay, I use a Sniper app to put my max bid in just a few seconds before the auction closes (as do a LOT of people who aren't idiots). eBay's proxy bidding software will automatically place my bid at tge lowest amount needed to win, or up to my maximum if necessary. If I win, great. If my maximum wasn't enough to win, oh well.

It avoids having the morons drive a price up way beyond what ANYONE is interested in paying, simply because some morons have no impulse control and place a bid, then go, "Huh, that didn't put me in the lead. Let's try $XXXX. Huh, still not in the lead. How about $XXXX?", as they blow way past their own maximum out of competitive compulsion/stupidity.

But back to the point; if the eventual winner put in some absurd maximum (say $10,000) that he wasn't willing to pay in the event of winning, simply so no one could outbid him (all the while, HOPING that no one would keep bidding past the figure he was ACTUALLY willing to pay), then he's a dumbass and deserves to be reported and have his eBay account locked. 🤬

I thought the DEK1 was gonna be the meal ticket for me compared to the FK2 until I started carrying and using them. The FK2 won out and is now my favorite woods/camping knife. The handle feels slightly long for the blade length just holding it but in use is where it really shines. (I don’t think the extra little blade length of the BFK is enough to get me away from the FK2).

Also, don’t feel bad about missing out on those rag scales. They were buffed and had that swamp green/brown look to them. If you find a set of unbuffed, they will show a lot more color and look like the insides of those scales. 👍🏻

I never thought of the DEK1 as a camping knife, and I would not use it for one except in an emergency. I can't wait till I receive my DEK2 and see if she's my new favorite.

Yep. For anything that might require extended cutting or applying more pressure (eg. woodwork/bushcraft) the FK2 handle is the way to go.

I'd take the DEK1 for light cutting + potential defensive use.

For me, it's the MC if fire building and chopping/splitting is required. FK2 if no chopping/splitting is necessary, but I may still be shaving kindling/firesticks etc.

DEK1 if I won't be applying a lot of pressure for extended periods (eg. it works great for cutting rope, straps, meat, incidentals etc.)

I bought my DEK1 for emergency backup self-defense and normal cutting chores.
