Good luck Murphjd25 Murphjd25 please stay safe and get out while you can.

Any Spyderco fans here? What is a good first model? I am tossing about between native 5 lw, para 3 and endela
I'll disagree with some earlier posters and say the Para 3 is an excellent model for a first Spyderco. I always found the PM2 too big and clunky for pocket carry, but the Para 3 is just the right size while still being useful and has a sturdy tip. The compression lock is also great and makes one-hand use easy.

I'm also a big fan of the FRN models in K390, especially the Police 4, Stretch, and Delica. I carry these more often than not.

Finally, I recommend you get a fully serrated Pacific Salt 2 in addition to whatever you decide. It's just a wicked slicer and the LC200N is great if you have to spend time around water, sweat, etc.

Random thought,

I’d like to see less of the acronym “imho” thrown around in casual conversation.

To proclaim one’s self humble while trying to get their point across is a direct contradiction. Most instances I see it used, a humble individual would more than likely shrug off the topic and adopt more of a “laissez-faire” attitude.

There is nothing wrong with being opinionated, and it’s equally acceptable to exhibit a more cavalier disposition. I guess it just irks me when folks say they’re one thing but display the traits of the opposite of that thing.

And I can say all this because I’m NOT humble…

Awesome, thank you for your thoughts! There is something about the para 3 that really draws my attention. Have you handled/ have a preference between the regular model and lw para 3?

If 'slicey' is the priority, a PM2 is a good first Spydie.

I wouldn't pry with the tip, and it's definitely not the kind of folder I would ever baton anything bigger than maybe thumbsize with, but the PM2 is a pretty good all around size. I agree that the PM3 is on the small side.

Likewise, the Military would be for folks who prefer a bigger folder/longer blade.

PM2 does a good job with things like slicing cardboard, making feathersticks, slicing/cutting for food prep etc.

Have an LC200N as well, solely for kayaking. Pretty much rustproof, but unless you need that level of corrosion resistance for use in wet environments (or if it'll get a lot of exposure to sweat), the other steels perform better for longer, in actual use.
Thank you!
I wish I could handle the PM2 and 3 and a few other models, that'd make things a lot easier 😅
Its a guessing game sometimes otherwise

Well, as a non English native speaker, IMHO, it’s the opinion that’s humble (= “not arrogant or assertive”), not the person :)

I am a Spyderco fanatic and have had multiples of all of the popular models. I really prefer the FRN Seki Japan produced knives these days. The Endela is my favorite model for sure. The Wharncliffe versions of the Endela and Delica are amazing and I carry those the most. The PM2 is ok if you like a comp lock, but I much prefer their backlocks and the Seki FRN. The Endela is basically a choil-less backlock FRN PM2 as benchrest said.

Here are my recommendations for your first (of many...the Spydiebug hits HARD!!)

K390 Endela Wharncliffe
K390 Endela
K390 Delica Wharncliffe
Cruwear Micarta PM2
the upcoming on 9/16 @ 10:00 AM MST Cutlery Shoppe Exclusive Wharncliffe PM2 in Orange G10 with DLC coated CTS-XHP blade

Then you will want to pick up a Pacific Salt (for the beach) and a few Wharncliff Manbugs for your keychains. Eventually add a Military for something larger to carry in the winter with gloves.

I don't really care for the Native or Para 3 and sold all of mine. Try to go to a local store that carries Spydercos and try them all out if possible.
The endelas sure look solid and i've heard nothing but good things about their Japanese factory! Maybe I should pick up more than 1...
Unfortunately finding or handling anything in a shop is near impossible in Aus

Murphjd25 Murphjd25 Good luck to you. It’s an awful feeling that I am familiar with. You probably know but if you don’t have a scanner with your local agencies programmed in you can find it streaming online. And we watch flightradar24 online to see real time where the choppers, spotters, and other fire planes are working. I know you said it’s too windy now but if it lets up. Hoping for the best for y’all.

Yes, I have three Para 3's: 2 g10 (Cruwear and REX45) and 1 lightweight (BD1N). I rarely carry the lightweight one unless I'm going for a run or otherwise wearing clothes that can't comfortably support a heavier knife. The LW model is certainly a capable knife, but it's just not the one I reach for first.

Edit: the standard G10 Para 3 is 3.4 oz while the LW is 2.4 oz. A more substantial handle is worth an extra ounce to me, but to each his own.

Would that it were, my friend, would that it were…

But it does get me thinkin’… if, adversely, an individual were to end a statement with “in my expert opinion (IMEO)” would we be to assume that it is not the person that is an “expert” but rather the opinion is offered with “expertise”.

Furthermore, if one were to offer their “expert opinion” would we not ponder “what makes you an expert?” Surely there must be some formal designation or decree to qualify one as such?

Self proclamations are, at best, a dubious endeavor. Which is why I steer clear of them! And hence forth shall not meander down the road of random thought (publicly at the very least) ✌️➡️

We’re packed and ready to go. We’re under level 1 now. They tried to get the helicopters up to drop water but there’s to much wind. No containment. It’s coming down our side of the mountain, the absolute worst case scenario where you want a fire to go. 20 acres this morning it’s over 1000 now I’m under 4 hours. Wind is supposed to pick up to even more this evening afternoon, 30-40 mph. It’s not looking good. Thanks everyone.
Stay safe and keep us posted when you can.

We lack the context that brought this to your mind. I usually just read it as a turn of phrase intended to convey hey, don't take this too seriously but here is my view.

What do y'all think of Queen (Cohort) Camilla? Queen Diana would have been SO much better. Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

People are already suggesting that Charles should step down as KING early in favor of William. WTF? The poor guy had to wait 50 years after he turned 23 to finally succeed his mother as KING and he'll likely sit on the "throne" for only 20-25 years at most. Give the guy a break!

If anyone should have stepped down, it was his mother. 70 years as QUEEN. Wouldn't have 50-60 years been enough? LOL! ;)

With all due respect, "the Queen is dead, long live the King!"

I really like the idea of the lw but often hear that they tend to have bladeplay which is one thing that bugs me and I picky with
