Random Thought Thread

Speaking of doing nutty stuff:

A close friend picked up his 2018 Porsche GT3 from a dealer in Boise ID a few days ago at 15K over sticker (they're supposed to be very hot items, shrug!) and I'm thinking WTF!!! If I go over 80 MPH in my boxy SUV, I'll feel close to becoming dizzy and at $100 MPH, I may wanna pass out! Supercars go insanely fast and super guns fire insanely rapidly but when I touch / feel my purdy sturdy mighty D3V steels, only they bring smiles to my face and I don't think that I'm that weird! Just some very random musings!

Oh, that friend is also an avid motor cyclist and a zany speed fiend! Almost lost his life 3 years ago in a horrific biking accident when he got blindsided by a rookie rider coming around a corner, mashed up and mangled his left arm very badly which needed multiple surgeries and lots of nerve graft procedure but guess what? He's back on his bikes 2 years post surgeries and still riding like a lunatic. My brain clearly lacks a developed insula because thrill seeking and daredevils stuff just doesn't register even if thrill seekers get most of the chicks ;)

I’ve only been scared for my life twice while in a car. Once was in a GT3 going around Lake Matthews on the verge of losing traction at 140+mph, and once in a sub 10 second quarter mile 1969 Road Runner.
Those GT3’s are so stupid fast that they should really only be track cars!

This new model GT3 is supposedly ever so stupidly fast! New 4 liter naturally aspirated engine which puts out 500 bhp which can run up to 9000 RPM on the tach before it reds out! The MoFo is faster than most motor bikes. It’s amazing how fast Porsche has made this new beast GT3s without their twin turbo chargers!

That’s just nuts.
I’d be perfectly happy with a late 60’s or early 70’s 911 or 912.
Plenty of power for such a small car.

I’ve got a P30 9 in V3. I’m not a striker fired pistol kinda guy. I’d love a P30 .45 because the spider man grip is phenomenal.

The P30 .45 is basically the HK45. It wouldn't be as ergonomic as a double stack. I'm cool with 10rds in a .45.....been used to less capacity with the 1911. Been my go to since I was a kid and my dad first put one in my hands. I'm stuck on the HK45 though... It's just a bear to cc.

I had the REPR btw..... nice gun but I'd recommend a Larue over it unless you're strictly a piston guy. I shoot a LMT .308.... not quite as accurate as the Larue but i can quick change my barrels and swap calibers, I'll admit though: I get a little green when I shoot my buddies Larue.

The 912 was only a 4 banger and IIRC it had a max output of around 90 horsepower. If you happen to catch on a good day, I'll be able to give you a push up the hills with some ample notice if you should decide to buy something like a 1968 912 :D

I want the size of the P30 which is much smaller than the HK45. Even if it was single stack with 7-8rds I’d be happy. Basically I want the HK45C with the ergo grip.

90hp is plenty!
A nice cam, ported and polished heads and a set of Weber 40 IDF’s would make that 4 banger sing.

IMHO, that is the classic more money than brains syndrome.* I remember when the Miata was the must have yuppie car and people were paying well over MSRP. Then it was the Corvette ZR1. One of the salesmen in our office just had to have one. They were unobtainium. He paid about 50% over MSRP. A year later he wanted to trade it in on a Mercedes that he just had to have. He was offered 25% of what he paid. (IIRC, this was around 1990 + or -)

* That doesn't apply to buying pre-owned CPK. :D

Gotcha, yeah that would be nice....I think I'd be happy with the same gun but more aggressive grip. That's my only qualm with my p2000. Would benefit from being more aggressive.

Been looking at the PPQ .45 from Walther....I shot a PPQ 9 and liked it. Love me some German guns!

Oh this friend is an old hand car dealer himself. Once the winter is over and the market picks up, he’d manage to make a few $$$$ on it and move onto the next one, so long as he keeps the miles under 500 miles or so. Pretty much like buying a CPK just to obsess over and to ogle at :D

That's cool. My wife was watching a Mecum auction. Old cars going for $$$$$$. I guess if you got it and can afford it, go for it. Personally, I wouldn't pay a 100 grand for any car even if I had the money. To each his own I guess.

CPK costs a lot less. That's a good thing for us poor folks. A lot of people would think that we are nuts for paying $250 to $600 + for a knife.

If our neurons trigger off and sparkle the same with $100 - $1000 expenditure as opposed to spending $200K on a car, $100K on a watch or jumping off cliffs with a wing suit, I'd take our "bare-bone" hobby any day pf the week over those other extremes :)
