is it supposed to?
Oh yeah, on todays modern diesels they recirculate exhaust gas into the engine, so the oil is blacker then black, even right after an oil change. I plan on doing a oil analysis at 10k. I’ve heard lots guys running 15k or more between oil changes these days. Hell, on the new Cummins even Cummins recommends 1 year/15k oil changes.

I feel like a chump going in every 5000 now

I'll post a pic of a f350 that will make you sad tomorrow....

Aluminum bed with a fiberglass shell on it....... the shell has sawed through the Aluminum bed like it was hit by a cut off wheel....
Why anyone ever thought it’d be a great idea to build a truck out of Aluminum is beyond me. Pretty soon it will be every new truck, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton. I’ll never buy one, steel only please!

I'm all for eliminating weight (*as it adds to the payload when you consider GVWR), but definitely not at the expense of strength. My little '13 Ram 3500 4X4 C&C weighs-in at 9200# without my fat self in it. I'm sure the steel CM flatbed makes-up a good bit of that. Beyond that, EVERYTHING on that thing is heavy...engine, tranny, frame, axles, etc. Hell, the frame on that thing is more robust than most medium duty truck frames were in the 80's and 90's.

If I ever can, I want to try a new Ford 7.3L gasser...F-350 SRW, 4X4, C&C. If I were to ever do that, I might consider an aluminum flatbed, but just can't get past the fact that aluminum under stress will only flex so much before tearing/breaking.

By the way,

The current Rotella T-6 in my Cummins is going on about 18 months, but I doubt it has 5K miles on it. (*I'd have to check to make sure)

Either way, I'll be dumping it in the next coupla' weeks. The Fleetguard LF16035 filter has been staring at me, judgingly, for the last couple of months.

Gassers seem to be a bit different.

My Buddy is an AMAZING Mechanic...the "old school" type who could work on just about anything. He's currently a trouble-shooter for Bendix Brakes.

Anyhow, I know "cab companies" have gone the way of the dinosaur with the advent of Uber and Lyft, but he was telling me that one of our local companies was legging their oil changes (*full syn) out to 27K based on oil analysis. Their studies told them that modern oils had no issues with 25K-30K miles on modern/full syn oils, even in the South Texas heat and humidity. 😮

As far as I know, they're easily getting over 350K out of their cars, with oil changes about every 27K.
