  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Random Thought Thread

I have some 6al4v. I was making battery cases out of it before switching shops. They let me take the bar ends home.

That's my favorite Jack o Lantern ever

Thank you Timmy.

We have some strange kids

Also, somebody found an old rusty a2 Shiv behind the microwave

Nice decking job!
I’ve heard that cast is a nightmare to work with.

I've never run into too much trouble with cast iron. My challenge here was a lack of fixturing. It was set in there with a precision level and indicated and clamped across a rough casting. It was basically held in place by my reputation alone.

Had to do both of them too.

New headers would have been better, but it was the weekend and we just wanted to get it done.

The corn without the shucks:

"Mutation Analysis 100,000 random in silico mutants were generated for both RaTG13 and BANAl-20-52. The number of substitutions was equal to each genome’s nucleotide difference from SARS-CoV-2 and specific nucleotides substituted in were drawn in proportion to nucleotide frequencies across all 3 genomes. Mutants were digested in silico, the number of fragments & longest-fragment length extracted, and z-scores computed. Only 1.2% of RaTG13 mutants resulted in a BsaI/BsmBI restriction map with a larger z-score than SARS-CoV-2. BANAL52 is the closer relative to SARSCoV-2 by over 200 nucleotides, yet only 0.1% of mutants yielded z-scores as great or greater than SARS-CoV-2. It’s unlikely such an idealized reverse genetic system would evolve by chance from the close relatives of SARS-CoV-2 (Fig 4). "
