I am not being a wise-guy, but little things like wiping after a poop will be difficult...

Wow, I’ve not heard of a dislocated collarbone. As you said, they’re much more apt to break.

Mine is very, very sore. Seems there’s just no comfortable position to put myself in. I’m not one for painkillers, and refused them at the ER, but changed my tune at the fracture clinic as I simply can’t get any rest with this constant throbbing. They prescribed me Percocet and they help a bit by JUST taking the edge off.
One of my best friends from childhood broke his collarbone back in 2016. It was painful enough that they prescribed opiate painkillers for him, but cut him off after a while. He got hooked, but he kept it very low-key. Neither I, nor anyone I am still close to knew that he had gotten hooked on heroin until he died from fentanyl laced heroin right before Thanksgiving 2019.

We didn't even know what had happened by the time we buried him. The truth came out later, and it turned out that one of our old circle of friends had known and been involved, but it was a surprise to the rest of us.

Get off the painkillers as soon as you can is all that I can say.

Twitter is the only "social media" site that I use and, even so, I just use it to get info from the sites that I "follow."

I'm taking a "wait and see" approach but is anyone else thinking about dumping Twitter if it goes to sh*t after the Musk takeover? 🤔

BTW, I'm so happy to see Meta/FB going into the tank. I really hope it goes the way of "MySpace." :)

Well, broke my collarbone this week in a wee dirt bike accident.

Now, after visiting the fracture clinic, turns out I require surgery where they’ll install a plate to keep the collarbone together (it broke in 4 sections). This is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hope you have an uneventful surgery and successful recovery.

You're looking at about 4-6 weeks to just get back to "normal" and a year til it's fully healed. I know this from multiple breaks/tears/surguries.

FWIW, I did the same thing on my motorcycle during a track day at Sears Point in Sonoma (don't know what they call it now).

Went hot into turn 11 -- the last turn before the hairpin. Front brake seized (didn't think I hit it that hard) and thru me over the handbars. Landed directly on the right shoulder -- tumbled head over heel more times than I can remember. Broke the right collarbone in the middle; simple and uncomplicated break.

They said they couldn't cast it and that it would just have to let it heal on its own. Can still feel the bump where it did.

Had to rent a hospital bed to to sleep/rest in at a 45 degree angle until I didn't need it anymore which I think was about 8 weeks.

No fun! :(

Mentioned it before, but breakfall practice in Martial Arts has saved me more times than I can remember, including going over the handlebars (and falls while skiing/snowboarding).

I've had friends see me tuck and roll in a fall, go "Did you do that on purpose? Cuz the whole fall, tuck and roll, straight back to your feet looked so smooth, it looked like the entire thing was intentional" 😅

I have never been a fan of Twitter. It's a platform for people to be irresponsible with their words and experience little to no accountability for it. If Musk takes it in the direction that he has implied he will, it will get even worse than it is now.

1st and last time that it happened to me.

It happened so quickly, I doubt I could have done your manuever even if I had been trained in it. The only thing I learned from the experience (and some others) is that I have a very HIGH tolerance for pain. ;)

Here’s the question of the day,

Why is it that when someone passed away with a sizable estate everyone involved becomes complete and utter idiots. Family ties go out the window and in the end it’s all about what someone gets over someone else. I’m ready to just walk away and gather up what’s left of my morality and sanity.

From what I have heard from friends and family who have had to manage estates after a death, it truly does become an utter shit show - everyone ends up showing their true colors. Sorry to hear you're going through that, I wouldn't wish executorship on anyone ☹️

I kicked this issue to the curb years ago. I told my mother, (and now late father), that I wanted nothing and anything that anyone might want or be in line to receive can be shared between my two younger sisters.

I truly believe that there is such a thing as "too much information."

Only "problem" in our country it that there's no "good way" to regulate it w/o stepping on someone's 1st A rights, which means that anyone can say anything even if it's so hateful that I causes people to resort to violence to achieve their goals/ends.

I just wonder why it's always some one on the "right" who takes the law into their own hands and resorts to violence (including but not limited to murder) against thoses on the "left" (who so seldom seem to be involved in such crimes). 🤔

Today's attack on Pelosi's husand and the Jan 6 attack on Congress are just a couple of examples.

BTW, I'm not a bleeding heart liberal but I'm not on the other "extreme" either. I'm a gun owner and retired LEO and have earned my "red state" credentials but I don't belive in taking the law into my own hands to achieve my goals.

I believe in our "democracy" and that means accepting the will of the majority (even if I don't like it, rather than denying it, despite factcs to the contrary) and not trying to undermine our government by resorting to violence (or other illegal actions) to achieve my own political objectives.

I also don't believe for a second that Musk is going to turn Twitspace into some kind of bastion of 'free speech.' As with many other things, he simply talks a good game.

I ditched the last of my social media accounts several years ago and never looked back.

It's a slippery slope, for sure. I think it's easier for folks to take a black and white approach to it - either an uncompromising advocacy for free speech despite the damage it would cause or a desire to put checks in place in order to mitigate said damage.

I will need to brush up on contemporary writings regarding the institution of this right but growing up in school, a large part of the reasoning that was taught to me was this freedom granted protections from political retaliation - one should have the freedom to be critical of their god and king without fear of getting tarred and feathered for it.

Obviously, it's more nuanced than that and today's modern society complicates things even more. The vileness that came out of the woodwork after Musk's takeover of Twitter was announced is a pretty good indicator of what we all can expect. I don't have an answer for it though - I don't think anyone really does.

I also don't believe for a second that Musk is going to turn Twitspace into some kind of bastion of 'free speech.' As with many other things, he simply talks a good game.

Agreed, it's all a double-edged sword. I think it's a good idea for folks to simply unplug.
