I quit smoking almost 9 years ago, at age 33, after 20 years of smoking (you can do the math). The last decade of my smoking was mostly a pipe, and boy oh boy do I miss it. I still have my old pipes. I put them in the guest house as decorations, and to put them farther away from myself to reduce temptation. The thing about smoking a pipe is that I only every got positive feedback from the folks around me. With cigarettes you get lots of negative feedback, but walk around with a pipe and you get compliments.

I never got into cigarettes and I sometimes forget that those with a past nicotine addiction might not want the exposure that a pipe or cigar might present. I never got into the green stuff either but I've had folks assume I am smoking weed on way too many an occasion (whether to accuse or want to bum a hit) so I limit my public enjoyment of the pipe. Never mind that pipe tobacco smells nothing like cannabis 🤷‍♂️

Funny story that I might have shared before. A couple of years ago, I was at a Judas Priest concert and Uriah Heep was opening for them. So many were burning the devil's lettuce and the air was heavy with the smoke and scent. I'm sitting in my seat, waiting for the show to start and an older fella, presumably looking for his own seat, stops dead in his tracks, looks me dead in the eye and gives a big dramatic whiff, "Smells like weeeeeeeeed. It's you! Where you hidin' it?". I could not convince him otherwise. Out of the roughly 50 people in our immediate surroundings, I was likely the only guy who has not only never tried it, but was certainly not imbibing then.

To be fair though, I was clad in my typical denim and leather, sporting hair that almost reaches my knees and a big beard. I guess I can't blame the guy for making an assumption.
