Pretty quiet and only uses a third of a gallon of gas an hour

Had it for years without any trouble. I put synthetic oil in it after the break-in. And have given it zero maintenance since. I'm wanting to say was two or three hundred bucks. Off brand generator. Always starts on the first pull. It's good peace of mind when the lights go out.
There are some pretty small and cheap (under $1000) dual fuel portable generators. They run on gas or propane. Around 8000 watt range will run 8-9 hours off of a tank of gas or a tank of propane. I like these because… well… options. In a bad situation options are always good. Also easy to store 3-4 propane tanks in the garage year round. Use them for your grill to rotate through them annually.

Edited to add: you can get smaller ones cheaper.

Sorry fellas...the one time they name a storm after me that I can recall in my lifetime it's going to be a shit show for many.

If it were up to me, it'd be a tropical storm raining down CPKs (in their sheaths and with a soft landing) for the faithful. But, last time I checked, nobody in charge of the weather gave a damn what I thought we should do.

Batten down the hatches and we'll all make it through.

Things are looking up here in WY, B. Only -5 this morning. Everything (off grid water and sewer, and our own transformer) worked yesterday, first real stress test of the fairly new system. Touch wood ...

Watching the puppies do their business at -28 in the snow was difficult though.

Well at least the flash-freeze poo is easy to pick up! Glad your systems worked.

When I think that in my younger years I used to do week long (or longer) winter backpacking trips in the White Mountains, Adirondacks and Yosemite during bouts of severe cold...I wonder what the hell I was thinking. LOL.

There's a reason they send young men to war.
