So the wifey wants to buy a ‘93 Toyota Previa to haul antique and vintage stuff around. I objected, stating that when it breaks down, we’ll be out the $1400. Besides, it’ll be a maintenance nightmare….

She very calmly and cunningly replied, “You spend more money than that on one knife.” Looks like I’ll be taking care of a Previa.

A little windy here today...

All things considered, I'll take it as a WIN.

Sometimes, having a cheap 2nd or even a 3rd vehicle just to haul stuff around is not a bad strategy if you don't want to mess up, scratch, ding and dent your daily driver by hauling cr*p. Those Previas were extremely popular back in the day but eventually got replaced by the Sienna minivans; sold many of them back-when but haven't honestly followed them in the recent past. As long as she doesn't have to rely on it for long distance hauling involving freeways and full fledge type of business transportation, limiting the excursions to manageable radiuses (radii) $1400 is an inexpensive compromise for you to continue with your high-line knife hobby ;) However, you better be somewhat mechanically savvy with the basic stuff and also get her a (better than basic) AAA membership :p

Day 3, getting real old...
Yeesh...

Only experienced -60 windchill ONCE, while I was up in Canada (and this was decades ago, after first moving to MI, from CA).

No real prior experience with anything like that. The 5 guys in the group decided we were going to walk to the huge mall only ~2-3 city blocks from the hotel (the gals were a lot smarter, and said, "Have fun. We're not going outside").

The street was a wind tunnel, and the wind was blowing right in our faces as we tried to brisk walk down the street. "Ah... so THIS is what they mean when they say 'Any exposed skin is in danger of frostbite in less than 60 seconds'".

We couldn't walk more than 20-30 seconds before our faces cramped up, exposed cheeks, nose and ears were hurting like blazes, and we'd duck into whatever open store we were next to, to warm up for 5-10 minutes. Talk about woefully unprepared.

Did this 3 times, and the 3rd time, when we couldn't stand it anymore and said, "HERE! Duck in HERE!" to get out of the wind, we wound up in a leather fetish store 🤣

As we hung around, rubbing our faces to warm up, we realized we'd barely made it to the end of the 1st block, and said, "The gals had it right. Screw it, let's go back to the hotel". After we warmed back up for a few minutes, we sprinted back to the hotel (the wind at our backs, instead of blasting in our faces also didn't hurt as much, and we made the one block without stopping).

Gals were in the bar, with a cute, "Back so soon?" 😅

Merry Christmas tinfoil hat timmy tinfoil hat timmy , I won't tell you about the NASA budget increase until after New Years!
in all honesty I dont give a fuck about NASA's ''budget''.

it's your money too and you place the burden of proof on guys like me who are trying to show you that they're lying through their teeth all the way to the bank.

oh well. I tried. no more though. just not worth it.

Merry Christmas.

Well I can’t stand spring melt/break-up having crap in it, and over a 7 month winter a lot of crap is left from 2 dogs. I pick it up 2 times daily at my house and every time I see them do it at the cabin property.
Perma-poop. All of AK and you can't find a good place for those dogs to take a dump you won't encounter again.

I guess it's better in the woods...you're not aware of it until it's on your shoe. 🤣

Bear scat is always interesting just to see what is in it. Moose poop is great fire tinder if dry but slippery as marbles when frozen. I HATE stepping in dog poo!

Going to be one of those days. It’s a miracle we still have power. Winds are still gusting up to 60-80. Power lines and trees down on the only country road in and out of here. About to throw a couple chainsaws and fuel in the truck and head down the road with the neighbor. Stay warm and safe everyone!
Y’all stay safe! Eye protection in the wind!!!!

I had some bear scat on my yard a few months back that was like an encyclopedia of edibles. It looked like a can of corned beef hash with extra berries and vegetables.

All beneficial and sound advice. Much appreciated.

We bought her a high-end 2022 SUV 5 months ago and definitely don’t want to bang it up. I’m semi-savvy at wrenching, but w/ well beyond 1000 hrs of OT each year, a fella kinda wants to pay people to fix shit…..,,and buy CPKs that cost as much as a Previa.😏

Thank you and Merry Christmas !

MI seems to have gotten lucky. The arctic blast seems to have been deflected by the Great Lakes, and it's mostly gone by to the West (then swept South, so it's actually worse South of us).

Weather Channel app says 3f, but my outdoor thermometer is showing 9f. Gusts of 20-25mph, so folks South (and West) of us are seeing colder temperatures AND stronger winds (and the arctic vortex curved below and around MI, so folks like yoko in OH are getting more of the wind than we are).
