Random Thought Thread

It is. We went in 2008 with the kids for a week of Xmas through New Years, and had a great time. Took the kids for surfing lessons, went to the Aquarium, took a bus ride on the road to Hanna, snorkeled every day and did a snorkel trip on the Pride of Maui boat, and went to a Luau.
That the plan the wife has plus horse back riding. We have a beach front house spending a bit but the daughter is turning 15.

Nice. Haven't been through the Methow in a long time, but it sure is a beautiful area.

And from what I hear, it sounds like eastern WA/OR will soon be part of my state, which will be convenient.

I take back my statement about Idaho being beautiful. Really more like average to unimpressive. Forest fire, drought and brown hills everywhere, not to mention the cricket infestation. Now, the Methow.....there's a beautiful area......

Went to see Journey on their 50th anniversary tour tonight. I really feel old. 😧

Awake late. Longest post I've made. Long enough a spoiler is warranted. Don't want to bore anyone.

TLDR: Feeling blessed to live in the USA and grateful for the CPK community.

Our ability to take things for granted amazes me.

I'm in New Zealand on a hunting/vacation trip. The rainfall and flooding has been pretty severe in places. The north island has really suffered. I'm hoping the people that have been impacted by the cyclone will land on their feet. Lots of folks lost everything. Some people just blocks over are unaffected. It never occurred to me what that would be like. Imagine your home just washed away, all your clothes, all your food, your vehicle(s). Your neighbor's homes are gone too, but a block over it's normal everyday life. It's a sobering thought.

This is a small country. An emergency aide package for them consists of about $11-$15 million (unless I'm mistaken). How far does that go after the costs to repair roads, bridges, infrastructure, etc.? It makes you wonder....

Here I am on vacation, dreaming about my next CPK purchase. This isn't a sermon, no preaching, and I'm not feeling guilty. None of us are superman. I can't save the world, but I'll be damned if reality isn't weighing heavier than normal. It's peculiar how distant other people's problems can seem until you're staring them in the face. It's eye opening.

Something more subtle came to my attention too. Almost all the people I have interacted with have never fired a handgun. There didn't seem to be a conscious thought towards defense of one's self from foes, whether they be civilian or government.

The laws here don't allow a person to carry any kind of weapon for self defense. Not only that, but the law is written in such an ambiguous way that you could be found in violation for unintentional and subjective reasons.

I'm left shaking my head. I'm left awake at 1:30am thinking about how to make sure I never take any of these things for granted at home. I'm writing this down so the weight of it doesn't fade if I wake up tomorrow. (Didn't want to take waking up for granted!)

I'm thankful for the relative security most of us in the USA are blessed to live in. I'm grateful for the rights I enjoy that others fought (and are still fighting) for. Grateful for the CPK community. Stay safe out there.

I find what you wrote refreshing. Spending time outside the US (or even some states) is an eye opener for many. It is easy to take our way of life and freedoms for granted. Stay safe.
