I welcome them around the outside, they are a fantastic natural mosquito killer. I even hang up bat houses for them up north on my hunting property to encourage their congregation and habitation near me. Watch them each night here in the twilight, picking off hundreds of flying bugs and earning their keep.
Grew up with them living inside the walls and ceiling at my Gramps house too, squealing and hearing their claws scratching while they climbed up and around inside the walls every night except wintertime. Almost weekly we had to take care of one or two that found its way into the house.
But around here where I live, rabies in them is a very common occurrence, with numerous cases reported each year. Just couldn’t take that chance.
I’m a big time hunter and outdoorsman and have a phenomenal respect for all our natural and domestic wildlife and the environment. But I do draw the line at any bedroom invader, especially one that has the potential to be carrying rabies.
Even though Moose & Bears are protected out of season in your neck of the woods, if a stray one popped into your bedroom while you were sleeping, you would be well within your rights to take what you felt was appropriate action too.
I’ve seen first hand a person dying of Rabies while in rural China, it’s not pleasant, and I’ve had 2 relatives go through the Rabies shots series, no thanks.
I do thank you though for your thoughts, long live CPK’s and cold beer, Ganbei
