No. DOS without the GUI was better. But everything they put out has been complete and utter crap. I have a hard time processing that humans have chosen to make themselves dependent on such parasitic excrement. Seriously.

Not much learning needed to use this Linux distribution. Get the LTS version. I'd actually recommend some flavor of BSD over Linux (such as
FreeBSD), but that will require more effort put into learning. You can use a Windows emulator or have a Windows partition (or drive, or separate machine entirely) if you really need it. Okay, I have no idea what CAD programs are out there for Linux. Is Autodesk AutoCAD still the standard? They probably don't have a Linux version, and I don't know about running such on an emulator. But there's probably something functional and decent out there.
If you got the cash, this is probably your best option. You'll pay out the wazoo, but everything will work and work well out of the box, and the GUI is built on a Unix-like base so all that's there if you want to operate the machine from that angle.
Orthographic projection? Elementary, no? I recall my eight grade engineering drawing class...
