Random Thought Thread

If you got the cash, this is probably your best option. You'll pay out the wazoo, but everything will work and work well out of the box, and the GUI is built on a Unix-like base so all that's there if you want to operate the machine from that angle.

MacOS is UNIX, allright. Once upon a time there was BSD and System V. Then came Linux, largely based on GNU tools (GNU = GNU is not Unix). The MacOS kernel derives from BSD (original UNIX developed by Pike, Thompson, Kernighan, Ritchie, and McIlroy). Never mind that the MacOS kernel is called XNU (“X is Not Unix.”) :)

On a side note, I fondly remember meeting both Rob Pike and Ken Thompson in person, some 30+ years ago, even though I'm pretty sure they don't remember me. :)

CS Trivia of the day ...

PS: BTW, I have to use Windows every day, all day. No choice but I'm happy for every minute I can spend on UNIX. Don't use Windows if you don't have to.

Apple is evil. Period.

You're just jealous. Strongest Tech company the world has ever seen. Forget the app-store. Consider stuff they build that you can touch. Very different from Google, Facebook, Twitter, you name it.
