ok hold on… fk2 and uf2 - difference?handle mostly?
FK2 = Field Knife version 2 (4.5"? blade knife designed specifically for bushcraft/field use)

UF2 = Utility Fighter version 2 (6" blade designed with input from an SF(?) guy, as a fighting knife for armed forces, that can also be used for utility cutting tasks).

UF2 - FK2 - DEK

The DEK feels a bit like a UF2 handle with an FKish blade. The UF2 is swedged by default and I believe has a more reinforced tip accomplished by extending the centerline of the blade to the tip instead of letting the tip grind run off of it. FK2 and DEK have similar blade sizes with the FK2 having a beefier handle. UF2 is longer.

So I tried carrying the HDFK for the last week at work, unfortunately for me, it is not feasible. Too large for a daily carry when not camping or doing yard work or the like. It carries quite well for such a large knife, except when sitting in a machine, which is what I spend a large portion of my day. I will be still using this for everything else like yard work, camping, kitchen and hiking and backpacking, hunting and fishing. I gave it the old college try for EDC, that said this is still my favorite and the best knife I’ve ever owned.

For a smaller type knife while sitting in and or operating an excavator type machine for hours of your day... I would consider trying an EDC1, 2, 3 or maybe even think about the (new) upcoming ~ EDC 3.5(?) that Nathan has in the works?

Spent some time in the garage making this.
Cut up a block of micarta…
My wife won’t let me use this.
Please disregard the dirty table, if you’ve ever had toddlers then you know things never stay clean for long (also a reason my my wife won’t let me use this).

That really cool, nice job SwarthyGnome SwarthyGnome ❤️👍
Yep, your wife is correct, toddlers and that is definitely a bad mix just waiting to happen.

Bruh.

VERY. WELL. DONE. ❤️

* I would say that I want one and ask when they will be available for sale. However, this IS the Carothers forum, where you can "want" in one hand, and sh!t in the other, and see which one is full at the end of the day. 1688865074047.png

Just got home from intensive care, my dad in the hospital and on a ventilator for the 3rd time in 2.5 years

The way things look this time he'll only be there for a few more days (thank goodness)

I need a sandwich and a beer
ICU is all about getting people over humps- nobody wants to be there, but when you need them they are awesome. I wish y’all the best and tell your dad not to be a hard ass- if he feels shitty….go get seen!

It's funny, but we tend to fixate on the blade when we're looking at a knife because that's the part we cut with. But the part we hold defines the use of the knife every bit as much as the part we cut with. At least on a properly designed piece.

FK2, UF2, DEK1:

Some people might wonder why I continue waxing over the UF[2], and talking about the small DEK1 handle - after all, the UF[2] is the DEK1's larger sister, right ? But, the UF2 handle is the same size as the FK2's, and very comfortable in reverse grip. Imagine you go camping and need to cut pieces out of a block of ice for your wife's drink ... the reverse grip is not just for fighters any more ! :)

Cheers,

Roland.

Nathan rarely mentioned the impetus behind its inception much in public during those earlier days, but since he stated this in several sales threads in the recent years, perhaps it is worthwhile to mention it again in praise pf his friend for the newer CPK'rs who didn't know:

The 6" Utility Fighter was designed as a collaboration with design and functional input from a family friend, US Army Green Beret Jason Landphair.

The Green Beret that I worked with emphasized that it needed to be light and compact and specifically to be low profile and carry well. They were lugging these all around Afghanistan and didn't need or want something clunky. Also, very importantly, the handle (which is what makes a fighter a fighter) needed to accommodate a reverse grip. Snip...
