Random Thought Thread

if you sell a $400 for $1500 in 3 years or a $400 knife for $900 in 2 weeks. Whats the difference? As Marc has said,,many Layers to this onion.
It’s like obscenity…hard to define but you know it when you see it. And subjective. Time does play a factor tho…forcing the market vs playing it.

Puts us all in a weird spot when we sell. I don’t want to be “that guy” and I also don’t want to leave $100’s laying on the table. (Which I have also done,)

Nothing. I really dont care what people do with their knives unless they are full of shit with stories. That dek2 mentioned recently had strange activity by the same seller, sold, reslisted, sold, reslisted,,the action not the price was what had me ultimately question. Ima post some shit to Ebay at open auction eventually so please bid high.
Don’t forget you imaginary wannabe internet make believe friend that you’ve never seen or talked to prior to the listing.

No argument but as a fanboy who has been blessed with luck I can see logic in paying out the arss. A new model that everyone wants and will happily pay $100 more than cost still makes it impossible to obtain if you have a life outside your smart phone. Adding $400 over cost is indeed douchey but hey it gives people an actual chance.

Oh, CPK's are very much my taste...and I own eight currently, with a ninth already paid for future fulfillment. That said, I'm neither tempted, (at this point in time), to sell at the recent high prices...nor would I purchase at what I consider exorbitant prices. But that's just me.

I am fortunate that my interest in knives, and the hobby of amassing more than I need, does not have any deleterious effect upon my ability to put food on the table or meet our expenses. Were that the case, my answer might be different.

As to other knives, I won't suggest any in the CPK forum as alternatives, but I think you can get some great ideas in this thread. There are some stunners there from many fine makers, custom and production.
Well said and agree 100%. I have "only" 😆 seven myself, which of course is plenty, especially given the overlap in use with the models I have. Still, I am not selling.

Alone Alone , spot on.

Free market economy has its hazards and pitfalls but the alternative is far worse. Without delving into politics imagine the fundamental difference between capitalism and communism whereby in theory in one system the state is hands off (for most parts) and in the other system the state controls every aspect of commerce. Them ask yourself this, is the risk of inflation (as pernicious it can be) worth the enterprise versus the deadly risk of deflation where no one is willing to buy anything?

If the CPK Brass was very unhappy with the conditions in the secondary and the rampant flipping by some, it could easily take some simple measures such as ostracizing the flagrant flipper(s) but I don’t recall Nathan ever entertaining that idea and I personally think that he is right about the urge to want to interfere. The way that I look at this is very simple, just let the people decide and let the people discuss: free market economy!
