Free market economy has its hazards and pitfalls but the alternative is far worse. Without delving into politics imagine the fundamental difference between capitalism and communism whereby in theory in one system the state is hands off (for most parts) and in the other system the state controls every aspect of commerce. Them ask yourself this, is the risk of inflation (as pernicious it can be) worth the enterprise versus the deadly risk of deflation where no one is willing to buy anything?

If the CPK Brass was very unhappy with the conditions in the secondary and the rampant flipping by some, it could easily take some simple measures such as ostracizing the flagrant flipper(s) but I don’t recall Nathan ever entertaining that idea and I personally think that he is right about the urge to want to interfere. The way that I look at this is very simple, just let the people decide and let the people discuss: free market economy!

Well, no one is interfering with the right of the seller to ask what he or she wishes. The community is simply opining on the matter.

There is no pending legislation on this site to impose any parameters on what a member may ask in return for a knife or other item offered for sale, nor does the site request a percentage of the take.

So, rest easy. The Bolsheviks are barred from the gate.

Seeing the word Bolsheviks pre 8 AM PSTon a lazy Sunday is a bit jarring! Take it a bit easier on me the next time please :P

communism is a canard, we should really be talking about supply side vs. demand side...

That does it!

I'm dumping my DEK2, a half can of Cope, an empty .750 bottle of Jack (*missing plastic cap), and a full plastic dispenser of Tic-Tacs for $3500.

*I woulda' priced it at $2100, but it has the machined/Titanium screws.

I got a little chuckle out of this one:

Just checked for CPKs offered on the big auction site and came across a CRK Green Beret foxed blade which has "carothers" in the title which is an obviously attempt at spam wording the ad. Nathan is now much more famous and in vogue that he may realize!

Has anyone ever seen Nathan and Chris Reeve in the same room at the same time?

Not really a defense for flippers, but I sort of changed my disgust with them when I was trying to take my kids on a vacation that I couldn't finance without selling my CPK boot dagger. It's been over a year now and I still regret the sale and the price I asked for it. But truthfully I wouldn't have sold it unless it could have bridged that funds gap... Maybe my karma will balance out with how much I've lost on all the other knives I've sold lol

It's a valid point. Taking care of family and financial need takes precedence over everything else. I don't think anyone would find fault with that. It's more the folks who make a habit of acquiring solely for the purpose of (quick) resale and profit that are the bane of the community as such.
