Random Thought Thread

I may try and take the GSDs out there to help me look. I was thinking I could play some hide and seek with them with one of my other ones and then take them out there. The lost one was g10 and the other one is micarta so I’m not sure if they will get it because that micarta has a distinct smell. But they are pretty good at finding articles that don’t belong in the environment. Or maybe they will just dig holes, pee on stuff, and chase squirrels. It could go either way.

I thought this top load behind the cargo pocket would be a good place for my DEK1. Just the top of the lanyard stuck out. I was logging, setting chokers, and bucking and skidding logs. About 2 hours in I realized it was gone. The mashed cat is still in my pocket. The lanyard must have caught on some brush or something. I’ve been scouring the woods forever but there has been logs pulled down the hill and brush drug around and I think it’s gone. I’m considering renting a metal detector. It’s a tough pill to swallow for sure. I guess it’s better to have loved and lost….. but sucks. I’ve never been a fan of brightly colored scales but I’m rethinking that no. OD green is not great for finding in the woods. I’m also rethinking a lanyard with a ball on the end. I hate to be a bummer but it seemed like a place to vent amongst like minded people.
God dammit! Tough love coming. You guys and yer fuggin' paracord, beads, pry bars and single finger knucks and shit. Lanyards, we don't need no stinking lanyards! Especially in the brush dragging logs, come on man! I can tell by your boots that you have been in the thick shit enough to know that god damn lanyard was gonna get hung on something and pull that knife out.
......... I wish I had a spare to send your way.
I know a guy...........

M Mendoman , since I gave you shit above, send me an address. I have a new one in D3V with a swedge and bright green terotuf scales I will give you if you promise not to put a lanyard on it. Leave that shit to the pusscakes on Instagram and Gusbuster Gusbuster .

So you’re basically saying it’s wise to invest in WD-40 and a nice power washer if you live in states that salt roads?
Everybody I know that has a Tacoma around here applies fluid film annually. Enough people got burned that people are extra cautious.
Toyota somehow got away with a “customer service campaign”, which is a limited time recall.
I can only guess there was some stroking going on under the table to get the NHTSA to agree to that. Recalls are only for safety issues. The frame/chassis/foundation of a vehicle rusting through apparently poses no threat to safety. I considered continuing to drive it until something bad happened so I could sue. But I care about other people on the road even if Toyota and the NHTSA don’t.

I was saddened to read this and glad that you still have your other DEK1 to enjoy. MashedCat kydex sheaths are by far the best (form & function) kydex sheaths which Nathan has commissioned for CPKs (I wouldn't trust some of the kydex sheaths from the earlier and leaner years which were made by others). Unfortunately it does sound like the lanyard snagging on something hence unsheathing your DEK1 which I hope that you will be able to find some day.

Your story serves as a cautionary tale for those who use leather sheath instead of kydex. I own quite a few leather sheaths which I would consider more as artful [ETA: pouch] pieces as opposed to purpose built rough 'n tumble carrying sheaths. If it ever came down to actually carrying my CPKs in leather with utmost confidence, I would do so in Bill made leatherwork ( duramax duramax ). I would also trust those made by Chad and Lorien with Lorien's probably offering the slimmest profile (I have yet to find out for myself but Eric gives them very high marks). We have another forumite leather craftsman named Frazer who hails from the U.K. I don't know how actively he is making CPK sheaths as I do not do IG / FB where I think he mainly displays his leather craft.

Sorry to hear that. I learned long ago to strap stuff on tight in the brush and no lanyards at all. I will add that I won't pocket carry out in the brush at all either ... even a folder clipped in a pocket can get pulled out pretty easy without notice if it's real thick.

edit* I seen Grenock beat me to it.

Didn't the Japanese invent human lanyards?!
I think the Manchurians are hard to beat...

Blah, blah, blah........your whole post comes down to this..........

...............If it ever came down to me actually carrying my CPKs............

........boom! You don't carry them so when the men in the room who do are talking, why don't you just STFU and listen, ya' limey pillock. We know what your areas of expertise are, and if and when we need to know the proper prep for getting pegged or glory hole etiquette at the rest stop, we'll ask, but as for how to carry a CPK, leave that to the big boys, m-kay?

Oh, since he did it earlier, for everyone else...........we go way back, I've never liked him, and while he thinks we are just talking trash, I mean all this stuff I say about him. Plus, he said I was third on his list to get all his stuff, and since I know the two pricks in front of me won't pass on any of the good stuff, F-it, I got nothing to lose at this point.

^ mostly accurate but some inaccuracies need be corrected:

- not a limey pillock by birth the same as not being a native in this vast land. Just lived my more crucial formative years across the pond, is all.

- the guy on top of the list will get things for free. The second guy will get for cost. You are third because I expect a fat payday from you.

Go back to your corner millennial-X'er!

Long lanyards are cool though. Especially on a mid-large sized knife like the hdfk, you can do all kinds of things with a slip knot. There used to be a post on this forum with illustrations of smart ways you could use the lanyard to stabilize your grip or get more leverage, but I can’t seem to find that post/image anymore.
