Long lanyards are cool though. Especially on a mid-large sized knife like the hdfk, you can do all kinds of things with a slip knot. There used to be a post on this forum with illustrations of smart ways you could use the lanyard to stabilize your grip or get more leverage, but I can’t seem to find that post/image anymore.
I've not done anything like that with a CPK, but I've use a half-assed version of that idea to be able to hold a shorter knife toward the end of the handle to get more leverage / power into some chopping. I don't know the proper or best technique, though.

Are you talking about the video regarding the front forward lanyard in chopper type knives. I may have posted that one years ago!

Tsantsa were made by Shuar and Achuar people of Ecuador and South America.

You two gentlemen do not have a filthy mind. The Japanese beads which I was referring to, are donned at a different end!

Snip… (I wouldn't trust some of the kydex sheaths from the earlier and leaner years which were made by others)… snip

Sorry boss, I’m going to take issue with this bit.

My FK1 sheath is top quality and retention is great (I don’t know who did these. Might even be Mashed Cat but for some reason I think it was somebody else).
And the stock EDC2 sheath (vertical) is also top notch. If anything retention is too strong and I modified mine to reduce retention when I was using it. The only drawback to this sheath is the integrated belt loop which reduces carry options. I did pick up a mashed cat pancake sheath for my EDC2 and thats what I use nowadays.

I thought this top load behind the cargo pocket would be a good place for my DEK1. Just the top of the lanyard stuck out. I was logging, setting chokers, and bucking and skidding logs. About 2 hours in I realized it was gone. The mashed cat is still in my pocket. The lanyard must have caught on some brush or something. I’ve been scouring the woods forever but there has been logs pulled down the hill and brush drug around and I think it’s gone. I’m considering renting a metal detector. It’s a tough pill to swallow for sure. I guess it’s better to have loved and lost….. but sucks. I’ve never been a fan of brightly colored scales but I’m rethinking that no. OD green is not great for finding in the woods. I’m also rethinking a lanyard with a ball on the end. I hate to be a bummer but it seemed like a place to vent amongst like minded people.
ohhhhnoooooo

sorry man

FK1 sheaths were not by Mashedcat. If I bother to dig deeper in the much much earlier Fridays' sales posts (well before CPK) I can suss out their maker, but I'm thinking Dozier (my old job title in here which Retired UPS has admirably taken over). The knock on those being that some were noticeably rattly! Agreed on the vertical EDC sheaths but my horizontal ones were mostly PITA and very hard to disengage the knife. Mashedcat for the win all around.

Dozier did the EDC sheaths.

Well. No joy. But it’s on my property so I’m definitely not going to totally write it off. And it was an aebl so it may be okay out there for a little while. I took the dogs to ā€œhelpā€. IMG_6535.jpegIMG_6536.jpegIf deer poop was CPK Iā€˜d be Grenock Grenock or Casinostocks Casinostocks . I’m lucky I have another one and won’t be without. And that was really cool of Grenock Grenock to offer up one of his. My CPK mean a lot to me, as I’m sure his do to him, so that was super generous.

Prior to March 2015 I am unable to search at this time.

March 2015 started with this sheath:

ā€œDavid Brown Kydex sheaths with TecLoc are custom made for these knives and are well designed and well madeā€.

May 2015 - January 2017 were these:

ā€œJared Corry sheaths are custom made for these knives and are well designed and well made. They can be worn vertical or horizontal and can be configured for left hand or right hand carryā€.

The EDC from August 2016 to January 2019 were the Dozier sheaths.

Sorry to hear about the loss but it is good it’s on your own property. I know I’d be going on that scavenger hunt every free minute I had until I found it. Like I always tell my boys when they’ve lost something, ā€œShit doesn’t just disappearā€.
My eldest lost a brand new cell phone the same week he got it. His grandparents bought it for him. I was out of town when it happened and it had been missing 3 or 4 days by the time I returned. Upon my return I interrogated… I mean, asked my son repeatedly to go through his whereabouts and timeline and when he first noticed it missing. His mother and grandparents had written it off. Based on the information I had tortured… I mean obtained from my son, I then made one phone call to a location he had been with his grandfather then went and picked up his phone.
This doesn’t help you in any way except to prove that shit doesn’t just disappear.
I hope you find it.
Also, check that dog sitting up on the trees nonchalantly looking off at nothing. A bit too nonchalant. Definitely hiding something.

FK1 was Jared Corey I believe.

That’s a heavy loss for a knife guy. Hate to hear it. I had my small Sebenza come out of my cargo pants but luckily it was in my yard and we recovered it. After that, the blaze orange small lanyard may look funny but it’s staying image.jpg
