Random Thought Thread

I spent an hour yesterday and an hour today teaching my Cub Scout den (four kids at a time) about pocket knives and getting them their Whittling Chips (I also showed them an EDC and HDFK as examples of fixed blade knives that you might use for every day cutting tasks or camping).

Afterwards they practiced whittling a bar of soap into various shapes with varying degrees of success, which was a really great learning tool since some of them had some bad habits that were way less impactful and easy to correct on the soft soap.

It was so much fun and rewarding sharing some information about one of my favorite hobbies and the kids were serious and responsible and the parents so involved and engaged.

What a great weekend!

Both my wife and my grandfather were part of WW2 she doesn't know much about her grandfather other than he was at pearl harbor and we just remembered it

2 things she has from him , some kind of knife... my guess is it looks Polynesian/Samoan and a Japanese soldier's field manual
