Another excellent example.A $1K kukri is more practical than a $1K Shiv and those had no problem selling out. Coming from someone who bought a double edged Shiv 2.0, I'm in for a CPK kukri for sure.
For the longest time, the OG Shiv was the one CPK I never sought out, simply because its design/intent was something I had pretty much no use-case for.
I wound up ordering 2 in the 2.0 preorder, simply because it’s a CPK icon (enough that the OG is in their logo).
While I can use the K20 for twin sword forms, the Shiv 2.0 is literally just a collectible to me (I certainly hope it’ll never be needed for its original intent).
Still bought 2, and I’d guess that with the exception of a tiny, tiny percentage who might use one for a pig sticker, the same goes for everyone else who ordered Shivs.
There are LOTS of folks who’ve bought kukris from other makers, and WAAAAAAYYYY more who’ve actually used them, than used a Shiv.
I mentioned before, that while trying out various options for Large Camp Knives while in the Boy Scouts, I actually carried a kukri for a while, that was gifted to my dad by a Gurkha. They have impressive chopping performance for their length and weight.
At similar price points, I foresee the demand for a CPK kukri outstripping the demand for the Shiv 2.0, potentially somewhere on the order of demand for the K20 outstripping the demand for the K18.
