Crappy start for a Friday.
I leave my house around 5 - 5:30am for work. Clipped something and blew out drivers side rear tire on I-70. I had to put the donut on in the dark (I had a flashlight) alongside the highway. Good times!

Holy cow- that is quite a chunk taken out. Glad you didn’t lose control.

Glad you're okay, Matt.

That sucks. Glad you got it covered

The funny part is that there was another car in the emergency lane with hazards on up ahead, so I was moving over a lane to the left to give them space. Whatever I ran over happened during that lane change.
I’m guessing that car also ran it over and it was the reason they were pulled over.

Glad you’re OK.

On a related note, I now keep a set of LED flares in each vehicle, for just these types of situations.

I’ve tried a couple of types, and the ones that I settled on are available on Amazon under “Twinkle Star Emergency Roadside Flares Kit”.

I used to keep a kit with 6 of the Orion flares, in each vehicle, but these are better (unless I needed to start a fire). The long Orion flares only last ~30 minutes, and the bag with 6 flares is about 18”x4”x3”.

The LED flares keep blinking for hours, and the set I bought came with 2 plastic cases containing 2 LED flares (with 2 folding legs/stands) per case. Each case is about 8.5”x5”x2”, and fits in the pocket behind the front seats, with room for other small items. I also keep a yellow-reflective vest folded up in the passenger seat pocket next to one of the cases with the LED flares (so I can reach and grab both, before even exiting the vehicle).

I’ve also tried the hockey puck style LED flares, and the Twinkle Star flares have much better visibility, simply due to the fact that the 6”-7” long flares stand about 8” tall when set in the stands/legs (the stands unfold easily, and the base has a small metal plate, that the magnetic ends of the flare attaches to).

Especially on dark, curvy roads, these can be placed further away to alert motorists of hazards (your vehicle) up ahead.

The other thing that I tried and tested, is a 12v powered jack. It’s not really THAT much bigger than the typical scissor jack included with many cars, but when I had a flat a few years back, I realized how vulnerable I was, crouched beside the car, cranking away for 2-3 minutes to raise a corner enough to put on the spare.

The 12v jack has a CLA plug. It draws a fair amount of amps which might potentially pop the fuse on a vehicle’s 12v accessory socket, so I also got an extension cord that has alligator clips on one end, to attach to the vehicle’s battery, and a CLA socket on the other end.

Tested the one I bought multiple times, and it will raise the front corner in ~30 seconds with just the push of a button.

The jack has an attached, wired remote with Up-Down buttons with a cord long enough that I can stand safely to the side (i.e. in front of, or behind the vehicle), and maintain situational awareness, of my surroundings, and/or inattentive drivers, while just holding the button to raise the corner (don’t forget to chock the wheel on the opposite corner, for safety. I also store a cheap pair of folding wheel chocks with the jacks)

I’ve since learned, that the GooLoo GT4000 vehicle jump pack (that I also keep in each vehicle) can easily power the 12v jack without really draining it much at all (still showed 90+% battery charge after raising and lowering a front corner 4 times in a row).

Was the dek0 thread deleted altogether? I searched nates posts and cant find it now?

Yeah, somebody bumped it as a joke I guess and people were responding to it as if it were a real sale which is trolling people. I started to modify it and correct it, but I had my hands full building the K20 pre-order and I hurt my back pretty bad today so I'm also fussy headed from the Vicodin and cyclobenzaprine so I just deleted it. It's a shame but that was the simplest fast fix at my disposal at that moment.
