^Mass exodus? (if they are smart). Jk, they definitely are not.
Hey now! 🤣 I’m unfortunately born and raised in NY. now granted I’m in upstate NY and most people that are outside of NYC or other major cities are absolutely upset about where this crappy state has been going for decades. I’ve wanted out for most of my 40 years on this planet. Haven’t been able to because of family but I will leave at some point in my life. No matter what most of upstate does to try and turn the state around, NYC single handedly screws us at every turn. We wish that whole area just falls into the ocean.

Well, some of us who are from the area, (and still have family and friends there), are not the ones responsible for the cesspool. In fact, I spent several years there trying to make a difference. (And like to think I did.)

That said, there is no way in hell I'd ever live there again.

True, I know not everyone there is responsible for the cesspool and like you most of them have probably already left.

I can’t wait till my daughter is done with school in 3 years as that will be the earliest time I can convince my wife to leave this state for good. Once I’m out I’ll be hard pressed to even visit it again even with family and friends that will probably never leave. I still hope things change as I love the ADK region but deep down know it won’t.

I moved to the area I live in because it reminded me a lot of my time in the High Peaks Region of the ADKs where I used to spend a good deal of my time backpacking, climbing, x-c skiing and canoeing. I always wanted to live in an area that reminded me of Keene Valley and surroundings.

That’s my plan, to find a place similar. Have been through Keene Valley many times on my way to winter hike the high peaks. Beautiful area. Haven’t done much winter hiking since getting into skiing 15 years ago. My plan next year is to hike White Face and then ski down. Hopefully there is more snow next winter.

I don't really miss being out in the Marcy-Haystack-Saddleback area for a week or more in sub-zero temps. Day hikes...okay, but I can't handle that sort of cold for days on end in a tent or lean-to like I used to. Not quite as bad as Mt. Washington on Washington's Birthday though.

I never did a week or more, just a day (15+ mile hikes) which was enough lol then recover for a few weeks. Did 3 season hikes as well but preferred winter hikes as rock hopping and black flies suck, as well as less people lol. I haven’t done Mt Washington yet. Have seen pics of the top during winter….I’ll visit during summer 🤣

That looks like it was a fun time lol how windy was the top? I remember a few times almost getting blown off Algonguin when there were 50 mph winds with 75 mph gusts. Thank god for crampons.

Here’s some pics I found of a Mt. Marcy hike.
