Kp-index has max’ed out the scale. 😮

P.S.

There are photos from Florida! In areas where it may be hard to see/not visible to the naked eye, a ~3-second exposure with a camera/camera phone may show the aurora.
Yeah last night it was not super impressive to the naked eye where I am in Mass, just sort of purple and not as dark as usual (and there’s a LOT of background light) but it’s very bright and visible with a phone pic.

Ugh.

This happens to me every winter when it snows.

I'll see a slow conga line of vehicles a mile ahead, going 45 in the right lane, all following a slow semi in the lead. I'm going the speed limit in the left lane.

Inevitably, after following this semi at 45mph for however long, at least one of these damned idiots will see me in their mirror coming up to pass all of them going 60 - 65 mph in the left lane, and the idiot will go, "Huh... imma do dat, too" and pull into the left lane in front of me when I'm ~3 cars away.

After who knows how many minutes following the semi at 45mph, the idiot can't wait FIVE damned seconds until I'm past, before moving to the left lane. Nope. Gotta cut me off and make me slam on my brakes (in the snow), while they then take their time passing the semi at 45.5mph. 🤬
Yep, but at least not wanting to be behind the semi is kind of a reason to changes lanes, even if they don't go fast enough once they do it. The ones I'm talking about seemingly have no reason...no one ahead of them going slower, etc...just randomly change lanes for the hell of it. I stay in a lane until there's a reason not to, and then I change, but not before checking the lane I want to go into to make sure I'm not gonna pull a douche move.

Oh no. That’s not even close to being the worst.

The ones that make me wish I had a roof-mounted remote controlled .50, are what I call the “Fragile-ego’ed f###sticks”.

I tend to prefer using cruise control on long highway drives, especially with the newer Adaptive Cruise Control. Set my preferred speed, and it’ll maintain that to within 0.5mph of the set speed, even with gentler, rolling hills.

I’ll see vehicles, again from almost a mile away, that are obviously cruising slower than my set speed, as I slowly close in on them over several miles/minutes.

Then when I finally reach these FEFs, either they notice me in their mirrors when I’m about 1-2 car lengths behind and coming up to pass, and they speed up, or THE ABSOLUTE DUMBEST behavior possible; I pass them, they immediately speed up and pass me back, and then the moment they get ahead of me, immediately let off the gas and slow back down below my cruising speed.

WTF is the point of this moronic behavior? If someone’s going faster than I am, I let them pass and continue on their way. If they’re going slower, I pass them and continue on my way.

Why do some people do this shit? They’ve been driving at a slower speed for who knows how long? At least the last ~10 minutes since I spotted them ahead. Why the need to speed up just because they were passed? And WTF is the point of speeding up to pass someone who just passed them, only to immediately slow back down again? 🤬
I had a lady do that to me several times on a trip to Flagstaff. By the 3rd time it happened even my wife, a very slow, non-confrontational driver, was seeing red. Completely unacceptable.

Found my first gripe about the new truck. Apparently Ford decided we can only go 96 mph. With 1,050 ft lb of torque I can get there really really fast when I need to pass someone, but then it just stays at 96 and falls on its face. Guess I’m going to need to tune it.

My work van tops out at 64. Nothing like being on a 70 mph highway 5 days a week stuck behind someone doing 63 because if you attempt to pass you'll be plugging up the left lane for at least a few miles. Drives me absolutely nucking futs but I refuse to be that asshole.

That one ^ chaps my a$$.

But this one ticks me off even more - it's when I'm in the left lane going 5-9 mph over and passing cars, and up ahead is a semi truck in the right lane going 5 mph under the limit with a car glued to his bumper for a couple of minutes/miles.

But as I get closer, with NOBODY behind me, that car will pull into the left lane in FRONT of me without speeding up more than 1 mph faster than the semi truck! So I have to hit my brakes and slow down 10-15 mph, and wait a couple of minutes for them to pass the truck before they move over to the right lane in front of the truck!

Thery were SO HAPPY to just veg and cruise behind the truck at a snail's pace UNTIL they saw us approaching to pass them.

(1) WHY DIDN'T THEY WAIT for me to pass, then change lanes into the vast emptiness behind me and go around the truck afterwards?
(2) WHY DIDN'T THEY SPEED UP to match left lane traffic's speed in order to go around the truck?

When my daughter and I would drive back to CO from NC where she went to college, she stopped taking bets with me whether the next car behind a semi would pull in front of me right before I could pass them - it was like 9 out of 10 times those idiots do that!

Similar to Nathan, what I hate on the highway is people driving slower than me in another lane, that randomly decide to change into my lane in front of me (but far enough ahead that it's not really cutting me off) for no f'ing reason, other than to make me slow down and piss me off apparently. You couldn't wait a few more seconds for me to pass you and then come into my lane?

So it looks like you beat me to this peeve. So now I'm know it's not just me!

Alright, here is my traffic pet peeve. Teslas in CA in the HOV lane.

First of all, Teslas always have to be in the HOV lane, even when there are 4 lanes, and the right 3 lanes are empty. Still feels weird to me passing on the right, even though it's completely normal in CA.

Second, they keep removing and putting their foot on the accelerator. Which - if not done smoothly - triggers recharge and brake lights. So you have a car in front of you which hits the brake lights every few seconds, like - all the time.

It might be a tire speed rating thing. The 19.5 14 ply tires on my f-550 are probably 50 lb each for just the tire. I don't think those are good for 100 mph

Why on earth would you want to go faster than that in a truck?
