Since air gets into the system when NG stops flowing, which causes pilot lights to go out everywhere downstream, the system used to be powered by-get this- NG generators. NG can’t just be turned on, it has to be done in sections with personnel going door to door to check pilot lights, imagine that covering several States. If it was stopped at the trunk line by the Gulf pretty much everything east of the Mississippi could be shut down. I can’t understand the reasoning for a certain President whose name rhymes with O’Drama, to insist that the pumps be changed to electrically powered pumpsI should add;
Another consideration is ease of use.
Most people who opt for propane, need to have on-site storage, whether it's several BBQ 20lb tanks, or 100 to 500 gallon tanks.
People who opt for NG, tend to have NG hookups to their houses, so it's convenient for them.
That said, while NG is convenient where you already have NG to the house, and for use with the occasional power outage, one thing to consider is that if the outage is severe and widespread, the NG pumping stations may not be operating.
This issue arose during the TX freeze. People with whole house NG generators who thought they'd be fine, discovered that there was no NG during the outages either, and their generator setups weren't functional.
I run propane in a 20kw Kohler. They cost about 5-6k. They last me about 5 years of running daily during the darker months and not at all in the months with longer days and sunny conditions. When I’m running it daily for a few hours a day to charge my batteries I spend about $700 a month on propane. I’m off the grid and it’s a backup to my solar. My house has all of the normal amenities like a dishwasher and washer/dryer and ect. I heat exclusively with wood though. I do believe the switch to tie into the grid is pretty pricey. I average about 350-500 per month for propane accounting for the free months and heavy usage months. We frequently go 4-5 months easy with no rain at all in the summer. The propane and natural gas can easily be switched on most units. The ones I had are air cooled and not really made to run that much but they are quiter and cleaner than diesel and the propane gets delivered so I don’t have to worry about it. The diesel generators are more expensive so it works out that I have to replace the propane ones more often. My stuff is all on a computer so it is automated as far as when it comes on and how long and how much load to give the batteries and ect. I have a 250 gallon tank.If I'm not mistaken, I believe a few people in here have Natural gas generators hooked up to their houses.
Would anyone mind sharing what it cost to have one installed? Also, do you ever switch it on to avoid using electricity from the grid to save $$$? Natural gas is cheaper where I live than electricity.
It's fine if you prefer to dm me.
Cool tileIn much better news though we are really close to being finished with our massive bathroom(s) renovation. We ripped everything out to the original guts of the house and started fresh, including replacing all the plumbing under the house. Removed two walls, built a new wall, moved doors, moved and replaced windows, and then re-built everything to include creating a shower from a kit. Drywall sucks, tiling isn’t bad, I think I can sit backwards on the toilet and shoot a deer, or from the Japanese soaking tub.

Thank you, the white is just basic tile from Home Depot but the green is a special order from a tile company. We found a lot of green colored tile was clear with a green painted or glazed backside. We wanted some nice full color tile because it has a lot more depth to the overall look plus the color variation looked better when we ordered sample boxes of a few different styles and laid them all out.Cool tile

I had never heard of the guy and looked up two short clips... one about multiplication, too silly to even be interesting. I have listened to JRE a couple times on long drives and it passes the time if the guest is interesting.Perhaps I am in the minority and should keep my mouth shut, but I had to turn it off. To my ear (YMMV), the guys sounds batsh*t crazy.
