In retrospect
Maybe buying a woodmiser sawmill to slab big sheets of vintage Micarta wasn't a great idea.
Is it not powerful/fast enough? What is the problem? Or just another expense and project? In retrospect

I'm struggling to get good flat cuts. I think because the material is so much harder than wood. We're coming back and reflattening the material on a vacuum fixture on a machining center, but I should be able to get four sheets out of a section and I'm only getting three because I have to leave a lot of extra meatIs it not powerful/fast enough? Short crappy answer to your completely rhetorical question: Life. It's just life. Why does everything have to be so difficult
Yep, shoulda gone with the micartamiserIn retrospect

In my case I hypothesize that alcohol prevents me from burning fat as well as providing calories, so my $2000 collection of Japanese Whisky is probably going to drunk by my son and my son-in-law before I can drink again.I lost 15.9# in 2 months by going on an alcohol free diet starting at 174.5# on 04/2/2024 and ending today at 158.6# on 05/31/2024.
The main thing that I did was to stop drinking alcohol which accounted for about 500 cals/day from about 4 glasses of wine/day. My weight loss goal was 160# and, now that I've achieved it, my goal is to maintain my weight at this level.
I don't want to stop drinking forever. I enjoy it too much. So, the trick will be to start drinking again starting tomorrow 6/1/2024 without gaining weight again. The current plan is to limit myself to just one 5 oz glass of wine/day to see what effect that has on my weight & adjust accordingly.
I'll continue to weigh myself daily & use a calorie counting program called MyFitnessPal (which I used to lose the weight this time around, as well as before) in order to do this. Fingers crossed.![]()
I knew the saw cut was going to be insufficient but I had hoped it would be flat enough that I could suck it down to the vacuum fixture using an oversized gasket so that I could deck it flat but that has not been the case
I have it cutting straighter and flatter now. I'm able to get four sheets out of a block instead of three. Which is good.
The vintage micarta isn't fuzzy when I cut it which is a good sign. It's fully saturated like the Westinghouse and it's yellow like scrambled eggs like the good stuff used to be and you don't see that anymore either. You can't get this stuff anymore and I don't want to waste it. The process is working better now, but it's time-consuming and messy.
I've got about $2-3k in 10-25 yr old scotch & in younger but very rare & hard to find bourbon and another $2-3k in 4-17 yr old Cabernet Sauvignon that I won't finish b4 I kick the bucket but, despite my diet, I'm going to make the effort. In my case I hypothesize that alcohol prevents me from burning fat as well as providing calories, so my $2000 collection of Japanese Whisky is probably going to drunk by my son and my son-in-law before I can drink again.
