Oh man, I just heard that Orlando Cepeda just passed away just 10 days after Willie Mays also passed away. :(

Orlando was named Rookie of the Year in 1958, the year the Giants 1st came to SF. Willie McCovey who died in 2018 was named Rookie of the Year, the year after, in 1959 and Willie Mays was named Rookie of the Year in 1951 when he joined the the Giants in NYC.

These 3 "giants" of baseball were 3 out of 5 HOF players that I grew up watching play at Candlestick Park in the 60's. The other 2 were Gaylord Perry who died in 2002 and Juan Marichal who is still with us.

Back in the early 60's, when there were only 8 teams in each league, you also got to watch 1 or more HOFers on the visiting team play as well.

Roberto Clemente w/the Pirates, Stan Musial w/the Cards, Ernie Banks w/the Cubs, Warren Spahn, Eddie Matthews & Hank Aaron w/the Braves, Koufax, Drysdale w/the Dodgers; Frank Robinson w/the Reds & Robin Roberts w/the Phillies.

What a privilege!

Anyway, when you get old, you measure your remaining mortality by the death of the celebrities that you grew up watching -- in the arts and in sports.

Or, at least I do . . .

Most of the celebrities that I grew up watching are now dead. So, I know that the time left that I have is short. Such is life . . . 🤷‍♂️

RIP, Orlando. 🥺
