You thinking no more speed tests to avoid pissing off the uninitiated?

Yes Marc, Some people are going to always come away disapointed (just the Nature of the sale) My observation was not really not a concern for the one individual who was disappointed:thumbsup: More CPK (Jo) having to sort thru entries determining between People initially posting a
, 1, C ,W, D etc! Then coming back and saying "Pass it Down" (By the way I am guilty of this also)

I just think if you post anything on a Sale Thread (Regardless of entry (Speed Test 1, W, D, etc) , it should be interpreted or Taken as "Your intent to Purchase that particular knife" NOT to accomplish a Speed Test! Just My Opinion-Doesn't seem to bother CPK, so Carry On

I am tracking, and I am guilty as well. Wouldn't bother me to not post if it causes Jo and the team headaches.

Sometimes just as bad is the proxy post, which I think is a great "program". That said, I have seen a few recently where there was a proxy post and still a post by the member as well, which I seem to recall was not proper proxy etiquette. If you ask for a proxy, then let the proxy do the work, don't try and double down, is how I remember it being left. The same, if you are gonna proxy, be sure the other person actually needs or wants you to.

I agree. If you don't want a knife, then you shouldn't post. It will give others, that actually want one, a chance. But I'm just a measly consumer, so carry on!

It doesn't hurt anyone's chances or affect who actually gets the knives, Jonny. If there were five available and you posted third, with nobody passing, you would get the third knife. If you posted eigth and five ahead of you passed on the knife, you would still get the third one. Does that make any sense or did I cloud it more? What it does do, as Tom pointed out, is possibly muck it up for mamma Jo, and we don't wanna do that.

^^^^Agree, I think the Proxy request-method is very viable way for people to score a knife they otherwise could not obtain:thumbsup: (Proxy's are usually obtained by somebody who is somewhat active on the forum, or people are familiar with)

The only thing i would add however, is if you proxy for somebody, you might want to ensure (sometime before the sale) they are still interested! As much as this pains me to say, What Uncle Matty did (His quote below) was the Classy and right thing to do;)

P.S. If this happens to burden your workload and others flake out, just feel free to contact me to invoice me for this bidding:thumbsup:

In other words Kuddo's to Mat;)

If the general consensus is deemed to be too much tomfoolery as of late, Nathan can put a swift end to that by clarifying matters to that end so there will not be added burden to Jo's work and admittedly to contact additional people beyond the winners, say 5 un its like yesterday's sale, is additional work for Jo's already burdensome workload.

I proxied for one of our brethren in here, albeit unsolicited and didn't know that the gent had already acquired one. Therefore, I modified my post to pass the spot along but if too much headache for Jo, I'd be happy to take my claim and if need be, I would move it along myself when I become the owner should I not want to keep it (my 3rd HDFK).

With all that said, I am in the same camp as S SIx Magpies . The sales have always had a fun undertone for me and too many stiff rules will take away from the fun but if "our fun" is no fun for CPK-Jo, then please just say the word and most of this shall stop :)

Lastly regarding the proxy bids, it was already stablished by debate that if a person asks for a proxy and secures a proxy, then that person ought not double dip by way of bidding on top of having another bidder vying for him. Someone from last week had asked for a proxy and I happened to pass my spot onto him despite the fact that he also bid. I didn't back out or make a fuss as there was never any prior communication or agreement between the two of us, so all was cool at my end. Ironically with all the people who passed along from last week, if I had also passed along, this person would've ended up with a winning spot through that selection process.

All this said, from now on I may just consider claiming the knife for myself if I end up in the winners roster and then when my property, I will decide as to what to do with it when in my possession. I am sure that this will take a spot away from someone perhaps more deserving as I'm often quicker than many, although never the quickest. Is this better? The old adage that no good deed goes unpunished has never been so apropos!

Tom-Tom that was the correct thing to do because I never communicated with the person and then claimed a spot. When he let me know that he already founded one, I had to put my big boy pants on and let Jo know that I would take it if there was too much trouble for her to sift through it all to get that one HDFK paid for ;)

P.S. I've never had anything with Ebonite handle scales before :D

I think one potential down side to so many speed tests and unneeded proxy is the casual observer wanting to buy a knife who sees five posts already loaded and walks away empty handed even though there were still knives remaining. Personally I don't have a problem with the speed tests but it does seem like it has gotten to where the signal to noise ratio might confuse sales and might ought to be brought down a bit.

A few people doing it every now and again doesn't hurt anything but recently it seems to represent half the early posts?

That is correct Nathan. As the owner of the business, you must also be cognizant of anything that may turn away a potential new buyer or new comer because of a diminishing buying experience. You never know as to how many newer people a new buyer may direct to your brand, once he/she becomes a loyal customer of your brand. You ought to know by now that you will never have any issue selling your knives on here, specially if in smaller batches / quantities, but by the same token I've also found you a very fair minded and NONE dramatic person who also watches out for that "little" and the "voiceless" punter.

Personally speaking, I put more stock into and pay more attention in what paid members opine about than the none paying members. I don't shill for this Site as I have no affiliation and quite frankly if it wasn't for your presence here and the subforum with the kinship, I would not spend anywhere as much time and energy as I tend to do on this Site. Maybe the point that you ought to make clear cut to speed testers should be that THEY MAY BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BIDS if Jo has a hard time sifting through all the noise and the same with PROXY BIDDERS!

Exactly. As to one person not agreeing, don't forget the silent majority. ;)

That last paragraph covers all of it. Might be one of the best things you've written on here, cracks at Tom's expense not withstanding, of course.

I'm completely new to this CPK group. I have a FK from the original run, years ago. She's seen lots of woods use with lots of Scouting adventures. Last week I ask for a proxy as Fridays are almost impossible for me to take free time to play on the forums; however I found myself at my desk at 3:02 or something of the sort. I looked and the sale had not been posted, so I waited for a minute or two. I got lucky, thanks to some of you nice gentlemen! I hope I didn't create any havoc asking for a proxy, which I did not get, and posting also. It was not an intentional double dip.

Anyway, to my point... This thread is so fun, so polite and so very interesting! You all, including Nathan and Jo, are so incredibly welcoming and polite. I feel as if I've been part of the family for much longer. Thank you all for being so wonderful, helpful and friendly! I can't wait to get my HDFK and put her to use!!!!!

Cheers and sharp edges to you all!

I've been known to have my moments sporadically and of course bantering with the clumsy Tom-Tom makes things very worthwhile :D

In no way you double dipped. In fact I proxied for MPJustin in lieu of you just because he had entered a request before you did in that Proxy Request thread and had he managed to snag one on his own or otherwise, I would've gladly passed mine onto you if you were still interested.

I used to promise proxying before sales but most often psyched myself out and ended up with nothing for no-one! When I have no pressure, I do better at landing a spot... It's an adrenalin thing I suppose. This way, I don't mind if someone bids for themselves because no prior arrangements were made but by and large, if someone asks for a proxy it is assumed that they are unable to attend so it's only fair that those who attend and bid for themselves, having taken the time to do so out of their busy schedule, should really take priority over those who both bid and ask for a proxy (double dipping). This really was the gist of our (forumites) civilized discussions in the past.

You and MPJustin seems like good fellas to have around here and I'm glad that it all worked out and that you both ended up with your HDFKs

Y’all want me to start a “speed test” thread once a week to see who is faster? That way we could keep it out of the sales thread. Maybe the prize could be rockin’ a unique “CPK SPEED TEST WINNER” avatar or some other silly/fun thing until you get dethroned. It could be on Thursdays, you know, to practice for Fridays.

Be my guest; you will make absolutely a whopping ZERO in your (fake) sales thread :P
