It's a functional grip.

If anybody would like to compete in a friendly bottle cap competition with me, I'll put down a hundred bucks that I can make the shot before they can, I'll use that grip.
I've successfully used that grip in the past. I started my career in the early 80's, when it was common.

I'm not a betting man, but I was pretty much always the fastest guy to get off rounds at our quals. It was a bone of contention with some instructors, (not all). My reasoning was simple...if I'm first and hit, I win. Even if the shot isn't perfect.

We run out a line of caution tape and establish a shooting lane.

Michael was kind enough to stand guard on the other side of the cinder block to make double sure nobody ducked their head under the caution tape.

We shoot from within the shop to reduce the noise pollution to a local nearby neighborhood.
Lead and unburnt powder, what could go wrong?

And then there was me ......standing outside drinking beer lol

To add to the above...

I've always focused on being a "combat" shooter...whether I was on SRT or simply as an agent doing a UC assignment, warrant execution, clearing a house or other edifice, or setting up a trap for targets of investigation in the street or elsewhere...where time was of the essence.

The sniper with the long gun on the team was in a different state of mind from us. The rest of us had MP5s, ARs, AUGs, and shotguns...and primarily concentrated on tactical scenarios, from Black Hawks, small aircraft, boats or vehicles.

(I don't miss cleaning them all.)

From what I read about tank warfare, the first to hit was the mostly like to win the encounter. Pretty sure it applies to more personal combat as well. Hope I never need to find out.

That's pretty cool

I'm no warrior, but it's my understanding and experience that whoever lands the first good hit usually wins.

It was...in between the paperwork or drudgery.

I always thought it would be the most fun to be on the U.S. Marshal's fugitive squad full time...but it doesn't work that way, and I couldn't bear the courtroom duty. Plus they had their issues, like all of our agencies, and the pay scale, back then, wasn't as good.

Customs was a great job back when I started. The other agencies tried to get them to sign a memorandum of understanding that they wouldn't poach their people. (Which was how I got recruited from another outfit.)

Nathan, have you considered getting a couple of suppressors? We've gotten them for several of our hunting rifles and a few handguns and it has made target practice, plinking, and hunting more enjoyable without having to worry as much about hearing damage. It's a steeper learning curve with handguns, and not all handguns work well with suppressors, but it might give y'all a bit more flexibility in how, when, and where you shoot without bothering neighbors.

I know: it's one more thing to research and deal with, but the process to get them has never been simpler than now (at least in my lifetime).
