Craig Douglas is a friend, retired LEO, and highly respected trainer. I also would recommend having a look at the Shiv Works site. He offers a few items that would fit the bill but for the length you are currently using. Worth checking to see if anything might suit your need.
what is gained by reach with a longer blade is lost in leverage with a shorter one

I would like to clarify

They literally have a hard-on for me and they literally lose their shit.

That was not metaphorical speech
Personal experience with the intelligence of primates and their proclivity for emulation:

I think I was maybe 10 y/o. We went to the zoo, and somehow I’d wound up in the primates section without my parents or brother. I was young, dumb, and trying to antagonize the chimpanzees; hooting at them, scratching my armpits etc.

They started getting agitated, then I had the dumbass inspiration to mime wiping my ass followed by a throwing motion. The moment I saw the first chimp emulate the movement and wind up for the pitch, I sprinted for the exit (the chimps and monkeys were in various enclosures in a large building, that had large barn doors that were open in the Summer).

I can still hear the screams of the people caught unaware. Apparently, when the first chimp began, a bunch of them followed, and apparently, so did the other primates.

I peeked in the building sometime later in the day. The smell was intolerable, and just from that glimpse, I could see the evidence stuck to the cages, the floors… 😳

Whoops…

For law enforcement work, it's rare for a long blade to be practical, whether in uniform or out. (Though some folks will have their own preferences, and it's not for me to judge.)

We were issued some USN Mk (whatever number) when I was on SRT. I gave mine to Fred Perrin as a gift when I visited with him in Paris. I never liked having that long a knife on me for the work we did. (Your DEK 2 would have been handy, (and my personal choice) for SRT, but any of the DEKs could be useful for that employment, IMHO.)

For plainclothes work, which was the bulk of my work, I generally had a folder and a neck knife.

Have you ever seen a chimp attack a human?!? Imagine a pitbull getting hold of a whippet.

I would definitely want a 12 gauge.... but if I'm limited to blades, the k18.

Oh yeah, for sure.

I was just talking about a cute fuzzy little monkey that would like to snatch your calf muscle out of your leg as a funny joke.

They're pretty quick
