If the taser or the gun don't work that means grappling- and for that you only need an inch or two of edge to do what needs to be done, assuming of course there's been some of that kind of training for this hypothetical first responder type person.

I feel that the only reason to carry a knife with reach for hand to hand, is to scare someone away so that the knife you actually carry for self defence- a small knife designed with leverage in mind- doesn't have to come into play. Having done some edged weapons/knife fighting training, I’d agree with this take.

A last ditch GTFOff me knife doesn’t need to be very large/long, and a longer blade can potentially be a downside when you’re already grappling (the longer the blade, the longer the movement to draw it from a sheath).

As far as the CPK lineup goes, the boot dagger or one of the DEK models would be my preference, especially for the particular usage described. I would definitely pick those over the longer UF/DEF or Shiv.

The Shivworks Push Dagger is another good option, for the average person without edged weapons training. The 3-1 design (handle designed for 3 fingers below and 1 finger above the blade) provides better control than the symmetric handles (eg. The Cold Steel Push Daggers). Another option that a few LEOs carry, is the Ka-Bar TDI (same usage, and similar ergonomics to push daggers; i.e. if you can throw punches, you can use one pretty instinctively).

The Clinch Pick is a decent close range last ditch option as well, but ideally, works best with some training (the average person is used to the cutting edge being the other way).

Personally, with training; my favorite last ditch close range option is a Karambit, but it’s one of those that really requires training, otherwise there’s a very real risk of doing as much or more damage to yourself (especially when grappling in close with an attacker).
 
I hate UPS. Pretty sure they employ monkeys...

edit: OK, hate is too strong. I am repeatedly frustrated with UPS because of ongoing monkey shenanigans such as this.

Up in the bucket truck looking down on a meth house I’ve been to multiple times. Finally got the “go ahead” to cut the services down…no power, ever again.
