My mom passed away from a stroke on Thursday (it was a blessing and not a shock) so I was in Wyoming.
I went to this grungy truck stop off I-80 because it's cheap and good. I couldn't stop thinking about the discussion we had here about restroom door knobs/handles and how someone pointed out how gross restaurant menus are......

The signs above the urinals in the men's room didn't help. Make sure you zoom in on the sign, too. 😆 😆 😆 😆

There was a truck stop near Kansas City that could have used that sign. I had to block my son's view so that only one of us would be scarred.

My wife had a c-section in January and the strips were only supposed to stay on for 10 days. Don't know if that helps, but all stitches were internal as well. I'd say remove at this point for comfort. I'm not a doctor, but I am an amateur gynecologist.
did you go to ''Hollywood upstairs gynecology school'' too?

That is a long time! When you peel them off, just be careful when close to the incision site even though this far out it really should not matter. If any concerns, lift the area by the site very slightly and cut with small scissors like from a SAK, then pull from the outer edges. Usually I just pull from both outer edges while applying slight pressure to the site to prevent dehiscence.
Done.

I made a solution of 50/50 peroxide and water, dripped it on with paper towel under the edges and used the paper towel (folded) to gently lift around the edges toward the center, and then kept my thumb over the wound line to remove without pulling on the sides. Looks pretty good.

Washed, put a thin layer of Vaseline after drying, put fresh sterile bandage and loosely wrapped with vet wrap for support.

Think we're good. Wife's a friggin' trooper. (Had to snip off one small piece of suture sticking up at the base of the hand past the end of the wound channel.)

Thanks, B. I appreciate your backing up my plan.

Glad to hear your wife is recooping well E.

Question for the medical folks, while I await a reply to my text to the surgeon.

Wife's wrist / arm surgery was on the 25th of February. She had no external stitches, only internal, but the steri-strips are still hanging on after 24 days.
Edges are peeling up some, but still stuck on, probably on coagulated blood from the procedure.

Do I leave them in place or prepare a mixture of 50/50 peroxide and water to break down the adhesive? She'd like to be rid of them, but they are not causing pain. Just the bit of tightness on the skin.

Thanks fellas. I can share a pic to medical folks via DM, but won't post here. It's not nasty or anything, just privacy related.
Yeah, those have been on a fair bit longer than normal (7-10 days).

Besides being careful while peeling them off; I wouldn’t use a peroxide mix, but one thing you can try that can make them easier to remove, is to put a couple drops of olive oil on them, and let that soak in for a bit (maybe 15 minutes).

*** just read the post where you got it off

I got the peroxide info from medical sources, and it's too late now.

She just died.

(Okay, kidding about the death part.)

I was scolded by a Nurse Practitioner for using hydrogen peroxide on my wounds. Her comment was "sometimes the old ways are not the best ways". I guess it is contraindicated for wound cleansing these days. Saline solution only was recommended, but I switched to wound cleanser with lidocaine.
