Random Thought Thread

Yep, exactly my thoughts too. Think my little Busse experiment may be over. FBS with dull teeth, TGULB with wrong finish, and now this. Oh well🤷‍♂️
Dang man, that is truly shit luck. You probably know I have a LOT of Busse stuff, and I would definitely say this is not par for the course! I've never received the wrong finish. I will say I'm definitely not a fan of the more recent trend towards rougher (less finished) finishes, and as a result, I have really slowed my purchases.

I hear ya. It's also a case of getting to the point where I really should be downsizing the collection, not buying more. I know this, but the other day the wife mentioned it too, and it just hit different coming from her.

ETA: Still need a stacked leather handle from Redmeadow though 😁

Question for MDs, please

My brother just bashed his eye on a music stand.
He called his eye doc but they were closed.
He can see. He said it feels like it was scratched.
I fashion an eye patch with materials at-hand just to protect it.

Any suggestions? Should he go to urgent care? Wait until Monday and get into the eye doc?
🙏 thank you.

Not an MD, but go to urgent care. Don't mess around with eye injuries.

If it’s potentially scratched, I’d have him go in, at the very least, so they can give him antibacterial ointment to prevent any complications like an infection.

Any blurring of vision? Be especially cognizant of looking out for things like significantly more ‘floaters’ in vision, darkening (kind of looks like a curtain/shroud being pulled over the eye, when looking at things), sparkles.

All of those can be indicators of a detached retina, which is always a possibility with an eye injury/impact. There is a very short window to reattach a detached retina, before risking permanent impairment/vision loss.

Swarthy Bro was rocking out too hard...

Nurse here, I agree with the guys above and recommend urgent care for fluorescein stain to check for corneal abrasion and abx drops

I had to do the same around Christmas when my son poked me in the eye with a skewer lol

This right here.

Detached Retina has such a short window of time to take care of.

I’ve had over the years 4 eye accidents and all required immediate attention to prevent further complications.

All required antibiotics + actual drilling/( shaving of the outer surface off) of the eyeball’s outer surface.

Absolutely doesn’t hurt at all, sounds like a dentist drill. Doesn’t even hurt afterwards either. Maybe a slight itch. The follow up eye drops burn a bit for a couple minutes.

Patch for a day, antibiotics every day, the scab falls off itself on the 7th day, and can see perfect again. No follow up required either.

Urgent care doesn’t have this drilling/shaving equipment, ER couldn’t find the drill and weren’t experts anyways.

You need an ophthalmologist, NOT an optometrists. Big difference between the 2.

Good luck and sorry this happened on a weekend Friday.

He left a message at his ophthalmologist’s office. They were closed but said for emergencies call 911.

Dang, man.

Might be worth considering full time protective goggles (you can say you’re channeling Kareem Abdul Jabbar 😅)

Any decent provider at the urgent care should be able to do a basic exam with stain (and numbing drops) and if it requires immediate attention from an opthalmologist, they will either have the number of one or refer to ER where one will be on call.

Best wishes! Eye injuries are scary and eyes are precious.

All happened when I was driving my UPS truck.

All times I was wearing my safety glasses or safety sunglasses too.

All blew in from the side of my face, and hit me from BEHIND the glasses. Between my glasses and eye, freak accidents.

All blew in from outside of my truck through the open window or door.

3 were metal slivers and stuck into the eye. 1 was unknown, probably a small pebble grain that cut deep, but not imbedded.

I was luckily able to pull safely to the side of the road and able to call for help, even through the pain.

Goggles would have worked, but it just wasn't practical for my driving.

Alright. He got checked out. Sclera injured. Bleeding he had from eye lid not the eye itself.
Cornea is fine.
(I’m still going to have him see his ophthalmologist Monday)

THANK YOU everyone! 🙏🙏
