Hi all,
I don't want to detract too much from the excitement of the gathering at the CPK next week, but I did want to extend an invite to a different sort of shindig.
If you:
1.) Did not get enough excitement in N.C. and are eager for more, or
2.) Happened to miss out (like me) and need an alternative fix, or
3.) Are local to the PNW and want to get in on the mischief, and
4.) Love knives, the outdoors, and good company,
Then do I have good news for you! We will be doing a campout in November. This is an event that is pretty special to me (for a number of reasons) but the main one being that I plugged into this group shortly after joining the forums and have been going to these campouts ever since. It's a great opportunity to get out in the woods and unwind. There is the usual mayhem of various contests, roaring fires, beer (in abundance), lots of meat, and an obscene number of knives.
These Becker gatherings have been a forum tradition for many years, but numbers are dwindling, and I think the group out west here is the only one still doing these campouts. They originated over an enthusiasm for Ethan Becker's designs, with support from the folks at Kabar, but in reality, we just celebrate knives and the outdoors. CPK is usually represented pretty well between
pease
, Bill Siegle, and myself. It would be great to get more folks involved to keep these events alive.
We hold the campouts twice a year, one in spring and one in late Fall. If you are familiar with the PNW, you know there is a good chance of being cold and wet, we're built a bit different out here. If you are interested, please send me a message and I can provide more details. I don't want to bind up the works here, but I did want to extend an invitation.
You can get a taste for what these gatherings look like from this thread. It has lots of great pics.
