If you're a knife manufacturer, I would think you would have the confidence in proclaiming that you make the best blades in the world. The market and users can then make final decision.

I am a knife manufacturer and I'm confident, and honest, saying that I believe that we make the best knives of their kind in the world.

When you consider that we have multiple national and world titles and are the current national and world blade sports cutting champions, and we win almost every race that we attend against other, highly motivated, custom makers, I believe this undeniable fact illustrates that we are adamant about pursuing high performance in both heat treat and geometry. We are very very good at what we do and I consider myself a subject matter expert here. I have evaluated the work (and claims) of other manufacturers and I am very confident in our work. So when I say that I believe that we are the best in the world at what we do, I mean that sincerely.

There are some widely adopted CPM-3V heat treat protocols that are used in the industry that I helped develop. There are heat treaters using a heat treat, for knives, that I helped to design. It is "open source" and available to everyone, and it is very good. I used it, and variations of it, for years. It was not, however, the end of the road for the development of that alloy.

The knife industry is a large pond, and there are many places to fish. I have no intention of stepping on anyone's toes and encroaching upon their fishing hole. I know there are other makers that are also making high quality work. While I sincerely doubt there's anyone producing work superior to ours, I'm certain there are many makers, who are focused on high quality high end work, that are also producing high quality CPM 3V knives that would perform very well. When splitting hairs, one can look at the whole package and make a decision on what it is that they want. I'm certain there is no one making better CPM 3V than us and I will put my money where my mouth is. But if someone is making CPM3V that is as good or near as good, a user needs to consider other aspects of the knife than just the heat treat. There is more to a knife than just heat treat. People have different needs and wants and it is the job of "the market" to fulfill those needs. For example, my wakizashi is a real wakizashi and would not be well suited for processing firewood. It can do it, but that is not what it was designed to do. Some people might want a wakizashi style piece that is better suited for their intended use and could find a sword that is better for them than what I make.

At the end of the day, it is a large industry and there is room for a lot of different high quality makers producing different kinds of pieces for different kinds of people and different needs. However, if someone wants to claim their heat treat is superior to mine, I would really like to see that, because I'm very skeptical of that claim.
