Random Thought Thread

I drove through the worst blizzard conditions I’ve seen in decades last night, returning from a trip to Algonquin Provincial Park. Several observations:
- it was clear weather, for the most part, entirely through Canada
-it was warmer in Canada than it was in New York
-winds were likely over 50mph for a lot of it, with snowfall rates of 2”/hr
-in many places, I was driving through 8” or so of windswept snow, with very little visibility
-in some instances, I was forced to stop because I couldn’t see ANYTHING except white. Meaning, I couldn’t see the hood of my car two 2” from the windshield.
- I was forced to rely on GPS just to make sure I was pointed in the same direction as the road
-there were a LOT of cars in ditches
-all of this is still preferable to me than doing anything in Florida
I canoed up there for a week or more back in the 80's. Had a great time. Of course it wasn't during the winter.

I'll admit that the U.S. uses some funky units of measure, but Fahrenheit is the correct choice when it comes to temperature.

It's so much easier when 0° is really cold and 100° is really hot.
At least it’s not measured in football fields!

Honestly, it’s just a matter of habit. When I talk to different people, I simply convert the units into their system.

0 degrees = freezing temperature of Mediterranean sea water (preferably from the Riviera, gotta get those research travel grants)
100 degrees = rectal temperature of a sick English cow.

yup. let's run with it.

There might be something to the concept of metric beers though (double it and add 30)...

Nah bro, I know you guys use Fahrenheit, that’s why I intentionally switched to it 😅
That's thoughtful of you. 😉

We're not consistently super cold in my neck of the woods during winter but do get our share of it. Honestly not looking forward to work on Friday.

Well, I deliberately picked the warmest part of the country so it would always be warm, but even here the last couple of weeks we’ve had the most record-breaking cold 🙄

Honestly, any kind of extreme temperature is bullshit!

Extreme cold is nasty, dangerous bullshit!

Extreme heat feels even more dangerous, honestly.

I’m right in the part where it’s mostly always hot—like really hot—and let me tell you, even these record freezes haven’t caused as much trouble as the constant scorching heat we get every summer.
