I feel like i missed out on the k20.

We did sword forms in karate last week. Little did i know when these were offered that I'd need a live blade for my blackbelt test.

Hindsight and all that.

Anyhow here's some FOR SURE dudes making a game up of some sort.

Anyone ever eat mushrooms? A guy at church equated it to a fresh coat of powder falling on a heavily worn ski trail trail in the mountains.

In minecraft and all that. Enjoy your Saturday everyone. I'm going to feel like I should be in traction.

There are very good arguments against arming teachers carte blanche, so I don't think that point hits quite like you mean it to.

Have you gone to a public school, met with all the faculty and administration? I would say that 80% (and that's a conservative figure) of an average school's staff lack the comportment and ability to adequately arm themselves and defend a classroom in the event of a violent encounter. You can say, "Well, let's make it a requirement. Force them to train and acquire a weapon.". Ok, who is going to pay for it? A system that is already strained beyond its limits, and with teaching staff that are overworked, underpaid, and compelled to deal with horrific parenting, is not going to make accommodations for close quarters weapons tactics and training.

Well, then you might suggest, "Let teachers arm themselves if they want to". Weapons handling and defensive tactics are perishable skills. How are you going to ensure that the teachers that do decide to carry are actually competent and won't shoot a kid, a fellow staff member, first responders, etc. amidst the mayhem? You are back to enforcing training requirements under a buckling system. There are plenty of dumbasses in this world who shouldn't even be allowed near a car, let alone a firearm. As another example, just because an engineer is smart and can do math, does not make them universally competent (ask me how I know). We already expect too much from our teachers.

Let me be clear, I am a huge 2nd amendment advocate. That said, posited arguments that convey the idea that simply arming people is going to resolve many of our issues is just dumb, to put it bluntly. If a district has the means to implement and enforce standards regarding arming their faculty, more power to them. It's not a universal solution, however.

I agree with all of your points. For context, this school houses all grades (k-12) in a very small district in a remote area where access to, and extensive experience with, firearms is the norm for 99% of the population of the county (of all ages). The district is very well funded and staff are highly qualified, motivated, and not compelled to arm themselves. Evidently, it works very well here, but what works for this district will likely not work for many, many other districts within the same state.

Another consideration is that most of the unstable individuals who attempt mass murder specifically pick easy targets.

Some of the ones who’ve survived to be questioned and charged have explicitly stated that they avoided some potential targets due to the possibility of encountering armed resistance, and instead chose another location perceived as an easier target.

Merely the perception that a school might have any, or many individuals with concealed carry, can deter these unstable cowards.

Around my store’s property there are signs saying “Video surveillance in progress.”

Even that alone has been enough to make people leave less trash around and behave less like idiots.

People used to throw garbage and leave it behind without thinking because they didn’t know a camera might record them. But I literally noticed that the amount of trash dropped by people decreased by about 2–3 times once people simply knew there were video cameras recording.

I think the same thing works with weapons.

Often, people who do things like that are just cowards, and if they know someone might fight back or that there will be even a minimal response, they may simply abandon the idea.

Have you ever been in a store and some idiot was yelling at the cashier?

I’m pretty sure there would be far fewer of these idiots if they knew someone would just stand up for the cashier right here and now.

(I just gave it as an example, you can add any other case here.)

Nate's random thought for the day

My shower has two levers. One for heat and the other for flow. You can just leave the heat setting where you like it.

Jo and I have managed to about wear this mechanism out because I like to put it at "nice hot shower" setting, and Jo likes the "WTF are you doing that is scalding" setting.

It is very close to just a steam shower

I might need to upgrade our water heater to a steam boiler

First world problems 😂

Seems like old school is simpler, whether it’s the one lever for both temp and flow, or the old Cold knob and Hot knob, since you have to turn it to preference from Off each and every time.

I wanted separate hot and cold handles in my shower so that I could know I was getting all hot of at least have full control. I guess that is illegal in the USA now. Being off the grid, sometimes the water entering my house is hotter or colder depending on the temperature outside. I ordered my plumbing fixtures from Germany to get what I wanted. I’ll take responsibility if I get scalded. Outlaw life.

My wife takes long hot showers. I take shorter warm showers. There are two shower heads, each controlled by its own single lever. I never have to tighten the set screw on mine, but the set screw on hers is always needing to be tightened. There's some sort of message there that the universe is sending, but I'm too obtuse to make sense of it.

ETA: I guess it's that only one of us has a screw loose. It took me all these years to get confirmation. 🤣
