Random Thought Thread

Just a thought, but have you tried any of the SiO2/Ceramic auto polish/coatings?

I do a lot of driving and killing bugs seems to be a side job. These ceramic coatings (the one I tried was Mothers CMX), are easy to apply, and seem to do a good job of protecting the paint from bug splatter and bird poop.

I was actually pretty amazed that after applying 2 coats of the stuff, bug splatter that had dried on, was washed off completely by rain

I haven’t, but I may check that out thx. I know even a good coat of wax helps.

Fullflat Fullflat Haven't tried that one either Seth. An OCD car guy I watch uses a foam wand/soak, followed by a pressure spray, and then whatever is left just takes some light work with a mitt. He’s against any hard scrubbing on his high end paint. I don’t have THAT issue at least! (the high end part) :)

Yep. Any kind of sacrificial barrier helps.

The reason I looked into these ceramic coatings was because of accounts mentioning that for show cars, to get the absolute best shine, it's a good idea to remove a previous coating before applying a new coat (not really necessary for non-showcar folks, just wash and claybar first, maybe polish if the paint/finish is older).

The part that caught my attention was detailers mentioning that fully removing the ceramic coatings required using a polishing compound. Most waxes can be removed/stripped with Dawn dish soap. I figured if the coating is that resilient, it should hold up pretty well.

Flipping channels, I stopped on Nova. The subject was metals. They had a segment on Graphene., which isn't a metal. It's a form of pure carbon that is harder than diamonds and stronger than steel. When do we get knives made of this stuff? Then I thought, what do you use to machine and grind the stuff? Nate could probably figure it out.

What would a graphene blade cost? The last price I saw was $100 per gram.

You might want to check out Autogeek their in your neck of the woods. They also have a detail forum and help/tech line. I like their blackfire and black label line of products. Also for a strong bug repellent I like Klasse products topped with Collinite insulator wax 845.

Well. I talked to Nate once, and he said that the 3v in delta 3v just basically has the carbides pushed away not cut, because the carbide cutting tools used in machining are of similar hardness.

So. I'm guessing they grow this stuff somehow. If there were a way to layer strands of it and make em stick, you'd have a sweet knaaaf.

I had a realization today about old people. When I was young I would look at an old person and say "man that old guy doesn't know how to use technology, they're inept." Now that I'm becoming older I can look at this from the point of view of "man that old dude wasn't inept. He didn't know how to use this particular technology because he doesn't give a fuck. He's seen shit. This newfangled whatever it is, is just some newfangled whatever it is."

Also, old people move around like that because they're sore. Again, they've seen some shit...

Many old people get old because they aren't stupid. (Myself not included) Most old people get old because they didn't do "hold my beer" stuff. (Myself not included. :D) As to technology, I have a flip phone. I spend too much time on the interweb as it is. I don't need constant contact with other people. Besides, smart phones seem to make some people stupid.

Wish I could give Nathan's post above ^^ 100 likes...and as a guy creeping up on my 6th decade in about a month, I can testify---we have seen some shit, and I'd bet that if you pulled demographics on folks who have purchased your knives we would be skewed more toward old persons precisely because we have seen some shit--but mainly because your blades just fucking work. Tough, beautiful, fantastic design ergos and supremely reliable. Whats not to love? For me, you cannot put a price on kit that you trust. The fact that it comes from an American knife maker who runs his own shop and is an Evil Genius and whose wife is a scary ass bladesports ninja is just icing on the cake. thanks CPK!

I don't know if I qualify for old either, but I'm older than some/most of youse. So let's say if you ain't 55 yet, you ain't a playa! If you're 60 or more, you're Da Man and if a septuagenerian+, you're a Stud!
I Thank you Mat! I think, what was the question?:) Oh I forgot I just traded in my flip phone for a smart one, can someone explain what all these pictures do? On second thought who cares?

A flip phone would save me a lot of money :D
But then I wouldn't have most of my CPKs.

I'm always on the road for work on Fridays, so it's either try from the roadside on my phone, or maybe try asking for a proxy.

I'm not quite that old. I was a bit over a month old when the Japanese bombed Pearl harbor. It wasn't my fault.

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them.
So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."
Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."
The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- And I didn't land."

Watching a program on fungi. Didn't consider them as not being plants which is the consensus. I guess that their origins are microbial from over one billion years ago! They are really cool, they can suck the marrow (minerals) outta rocks and turn them into dirt and dust. Mushrooms are just the flower of fungi; didn't know that either! They can feed us or kill us, this even I knew :D Since they are so good at decomposing rocks, they are being studied if they can help us with all the shyte and waste we have created.
