Random Thought Thread

It's real pretty out here this morning. End of summer is getting nice.

Same here, the smoke is mostly cleared out and a pleasant 60°F with a nice delta breeze this morning🥰

In my area, FedEx ground was the biggest culprit. They've since upped their game.

Some of the excuses, from darkness to gates being locked were laughable. While it actually does get dark here (and we don't have street lamps), you'd have to travel far and wide to find a gate of any sort. "Floods" were another favorite.

Oh, I've had the "knocked, no one home" excuse while I've sat panting in anticipation at the door and all the others. The excuses are only limited by the imagination of the driver.

C'est la vie.

(But UPS better not even think of coming up with one tomorrow. LOL.)

At least - while almost consistently late for me - they are not loosing stuff. Currently trying to track down a USPS package with 3 Hinderers that nobody can find

Sorry to hear that, Roland. I suffer anxiety until knives I ship off are in the hands of the intended recipient.

I just sent one off to a forum friend on another site for his 93 year old step-father. I didn't hear from him for a few days and was concerned, but heard from him yesterday and all is well.

I didn't even bother to insure the package as USPS apparently, (as reported in some recent threads on this site), doesn't regard an agreement by email or PM, or PayPal payment as "proof" of value or sale...which would mean I'd have to contact the custom maker, retroactively get a receipt and plead my case had it been lost.

I'll insure with UPS or FedEx going forward for high end sales.

Not trying to derail the conversation or add to any anxiety but this is definitely true. I ended up getting $25 for a $260 knife sale even after going through their "appeals" process with multiple pieces of paperwork proving worth. Their final argument, after them delaying for months, is that the knife depreciated in value due to age. Needless to say I will no longer ship via USPS for anything worth more than a stamp. <rant off, and with apologies>

Thank you. Forewarned is forearmed.

Hahaha what the hell?

Had that issue where the courier would mark a package 'Delivered' but it was nowhere to be found, only to magically show up the next day, or the tracking shows, 'Delivery Attempted, No one home' or some such BS, despite the fact that I was sitting 8 feet from the door the whole day.

Got tired of it and setup security cameras to cover the door, driveway and mailbox/street, so I could confirm/prove that the delivery drivers never even attempted delivery when they claimed they did. After calling the various couriers and explaining that I had video proof, those issues magically disappeared.
I lost it on my local PO after they claimed they tried to deliver a certified letter three times but nobody was home. This was early COVID, I was working from home, my office overlooks the driveway, plus my wife was home with the kids almost all day every day. When the manager started in with “well you must not have been home those days” I tore him a new one….”it’s 2020! I haven’t left my house in a month! Nobody has! You can’t pull this “attempted delivery” nonsense any more!” except my language was much less family friendly…next day it showed up in my mailbox and they never did make me sign for it…

I had some scotch (12 bottles) delivered to my house that required an adult signature. Next thing I know I get an email confirmation of delivery that showed a badly scrawled signature with my last name and a random first name.

Even if said in jest, you are not too far off. There was a post somewhere when Nathan had mentioned that his wrist watch which he does use for his sales is extremely accurate which is synced up with the official .gov or something similar clock.
