Random thoughts

Funny, this year, we must have heard literally every rider coming to Sturgis from the West. If you ever do this, stop by for a beer.

My furthest so far was San Jose to Denver and back, with my girlfriend back then and on the Fatboy. I remember, I had to fix my brakes 50 miles west of Denver.

And Munich to Marseille and back on a GS. Good times.

One day we would love to get the bike back out west. Wife is done with the long trips on it though. 3-4 days is the max. We have done NC coast to north end of Maine. NC to Davenport, IA. IA to Sturgis. IA all around MN, WI, IL. Of course all over NC, SC, GA, TN. When we ride we take all back roads so it takes us awhile to go places. 3 days to get to IA and its only 1050 miles by big road. The journey is the fun. We have started trailering it on vacation so we can ride once there. I never thought I would do that and always thought it was stupid but if that what it takes I'll do it.

Heading out for Georgia in a couple hours. Should be there mid afternoon tomorrow.
Is anyone here going to Trackrock?

Happy Patriots day. I still remember where I was and what I was doing on 9-11-2001. That memory is burned in my mind.

Happy Patriots Day to all of you as well.

I remember, too. Was in Germany watching it on TV, and had the wife in CA on the phone.

So I'm doing a harrasment training and I just found out gender identity is a protected class. Where have we come to? So now not only am I not suppose to call someone stupid or the R word now I can't assume because you got big boobs you a female. I'm gonna fail.

I just looked it up and in 2025 the US Supreme Court case decided gender identity is NOT a protected class anymore. So there is that.

Hope everyone is having a good week. Gotta go to Wilmington Friday for our annual meeting, that we now have quarterly but still call it annual for some reason. Suppose to be done at 1pm then I get to drive to Charleston, SC to be with my wife, daughter and son in law for the weekend and then back to Raleigh Sunday evening. Will be a good weekend. Am missing the CPK gathering on Saturday but I did choose to go be with my peoples. Trying to make better choices. I think I'm doing better but wife says better but I still eat too much crap. Well I chose the fried chicken over a steak so that has to count for something. Probably frozen pizza tonight. I don't cook, I heat.

You want random??

Random is one of the main characters in Roger Zelazny’s “The Chronicles of Amber”. Those fantasy stories are great, but my favorites by him are still “Call Me Conrad” (or “This Immortal”) and “Lord of Light”.

But, back on topic…

I made Refrigerator Pickles for probably the 20th time today. Stupid simple (obviously, since I made them), garlicky, dilly, sour. Almost the best part is that I put oak leaves (for the tannin) from the front yard into each jar. Also California bay laurel leaves from the back yard. Popular wisdom says that the Cal bay leaves aren’t as good as the Turkish bay leaves, but I’ve been using them in cooking for 30 years and don’t agree.

On a more somber note a coworker of mine, that I don’t really know, had some bad news. We heard Monday that his 12 year old daughter had been in a side by side accident over the weekend and had been sent to Chapel Hill, NC to the trauma center. Monday she was on life support and there was no brain activity. Today we got the news that she passed away Tuesday evening. I can’t even imagine what her family is going through. Please keep her family in your prayers and thoughts. Hug your loved ones and never take for granted the time you have with them.

Heads up fellow Fiddleback brothers. I've posted up some nice Fiddies on the exchange under Fiddleback Bonanza in two parts. Let me know if you see anything you'd like to add to your collection.
Hello There!!!

Praying. Tragic death of a young person. Thats so hard for a family to take.

Tho not a fiddleback, ran into another poisonous arachnid on the patio… so pretty… and now so dead… wife would not accept relocation as an option with 3 kids :-)
